Question Kds-r60xbr2 Questions

just made a commitment to buy one with a local vendor. the only thing i am NOT pleased about are the ...in my opinion... ugly silver dumbo ears... for any owners of this set is it possible to remove them from the tv (however carefully) and paint them black? that is the ONLY drawback to this tv for me. and its got me rethinking the commitment to the xbr2 vs going for the 60a2020. ummm...help?

No, not removeable.

The DRC processor, contrast, and other features of the set far outweigh the 2020. This is top shelf SXRD tech here. Believe me, watching movies in 1080p will make you forget all about the outside speakers of the set.

I have had the 60" XBR2 about 3-4 months. The A2020 (last year's A2000 with a cabinent color change, according to cnet.com) has a lot of the same guts but without features like PIP, cable card slot, 120W bulb as opposed to 180W. Great picture, though, from all accounts. However, II got mine at such a good price, it was a no brainer.

The XBR2 has such an incredible picture, as noted above, I bet you won't mind the "batwing" speakers. Not surprisingly, when Sony introduced the 70" XBR2, they made the wings on that model removable. Not so on the 60."

Either way, you are going to love your set but the XBR2 is the gold standard, IMO, for Sony.

I'll say this, when watching without surround speakers, the dumbos aren't that bad and actually provide good separation for broadcast TV in 5.1.

just step up to the 70 because the 70 with out speakers is the same as 60 with speakers
