Default DTS: X Update Onkyo Receivers

Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone that did not know but the DTS X update for Onkyo receivers is available now.

I updated my receiver this morning and first message after turning it on after the update was congrats you are now ready to use DTS X. popped in the Hunstman UHD and saw the little light on my 646 turn on that DTS X was working.

It will be interesting to see now that more and more receivers are getting DTS X if we will see more movies have DTS X soundtracks.

I just upgraded and watched ExMachina. Sounded great, When eva Shuts the power off thats alarm sound is really all around you. Also i wanna say im liking the DTS Nutreal:X better than Dolby Surround. The processing of the heights sounds more apparent. (Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens for example)
But it would also make sense that a Dolby TrueHD mix up-mixed with Dolby surround would process better since they are the same company. As for DTS-HD Master Audio mix up-mixed with DTS Neutral:X.

I Just noticed if your watching a movie with DTS-MA you cannot select Dolby Surround anymore as an option Its has to be Nutreal: X

Yep. I noticed it reason right decode audio. won't be glitches sound.

For as example

1010101 = Dolby
0101010 = DTS

Surround =1001001001
Neural-X =01010101010

Mine's updating as I type. Looking forward to giving Crimson Peak a spin this evening and seeing how much of a difference it makes. I installed height channels a couple of weeks ago for a 5.1.2 setup, never had 7.1 going as it just didn't work for the layout of my room so I'm glad to be finally making use of the extra channels on the receiver!

I did the firmware update for DTS X and DTS X neural shows up but not DTS X. I put in last witch hunter and could not find DTS X? Do I have to rerun speaker set up for DTS X to work?

make sure your secondary audio is set to off in the player. I forgot I had it on when I got my first pre-amp that supported ATMOS/DTS:X and I got the same thing until I realized that I had it turned on. turned it off and BAM! ATMOS/DTS:X!

hope it's as simple as that in your case. please keep us posted.

What does everyone think so far?

I'm thinking of upgrading to a Denon receiver with Atmos & DTS-X. I currently have a Pioneer 830 receiver from last year (still working fine), that is lacking these features.

I just got the pioneer dolby atmos add-on speakers that sit on top of the front tower speakers. I don't know how good they'll be, but I thought i can take advantage now because i have about 15 movies with Atmos/DTS-X.

It's tough because technology moves so fast....HDMI 2.1 is around the corner and I'm curious if it'll render our current HDMI 2.0a receivers obsolete.

My TX-NR646 crashed during the firmware update via net. It was working made it to 52% and locked up. Retried and get error 0-81. Was told to take the unit to a service center. Unit needs a new board. Unit is out of warranty. Onkyo doesn't care.

They don't care their update crashed my unit, they don't care I'm out $400, they don't care it's going to cost $400 to fix it.

Now I don't care for Onkyo.
