Default Desperately need home theatre help!!

I am new to bluray.com, but have been reading the forum for months. Although I have learned a lot of new things, I need some insight on my home theatre decision. I want a home theatre that will give me an immersing movie experience, but not one that will break the bank. I am thinking about putting together a 3.1 system for now (space issues), and making it a 7.1 when I move in May. There are so many receivers to choose from, but I want to stay in the $300-400 range. Would the polk monitor 50's and CS1 work? Give me some insight.

Yes......

Those three speakers you selected would certainly work. I'd listen to a few things within your price range if you haven't done so yet.

Narrow your search to Yamaha and Onkyo for now. A/B them to death and pick which is right for you. Buy the best receiver you can for now and pick the speakers you feel you need and then add later.

Don't stress about it, have fun with it and enjoy.

Go to Monoprice.com for your cables and spend the money you save on your rig.

Welcome to the family...we are here for you.

Which website will I get the best deal for a receiver? I would buy used (if in perfect condition), but would rather buy new. So the receiver would be the most important part of my buy right? And I forgot to ask, I do not want to upgrade my sub in 6 months. I want something that will last. What sub would be a good choice? And i do not need some massive sub like the ed a2-300. A sub that will shake the room, and let me enjoy action movies.

Amazon is good, as well as Vanns & Onecall. Each have sections for specials, sales & even close-outs. Vanns in particular can have a section of customer returns, with the item having been check by an authorized service center, and full warranty.

Will I get the most bang for my buck from a Sony-DG920, Onkyo 606, or comparable Yamaha receiver?? And the Onkyo 606 will give me enough power when I step up to a 5.1?

I would also check 6ave.com and Jr.com, they run great specials sometimes, I picked up my yamaha for 370 shipped from 6ave and bought some of my speakers from Jr. And don't forget about Amazon they have had great deals on the onkyo.
