Anaglyph 3D and glasses (red/blue, green/purple etc) - Blu-ray Forum

Does anyone know if either or both the new 3D releases "journey to center of earth" and "polar express" come with clear lens 3D glasses or the old fashioned red and green type 3D glasses?

Red and green, our current tv's are not capable of showing the digital 3D we see in theaters.

Journey is red/green, Polar is red/blue.

They come with red/cyan paper glasses. These are called Anaglyph 3D. The awesome 3D seen in theatres is polarized. It won't be long before we can see polarized at home.
Actually the equipment is already available to view polarized 3D at home.

By the way, the big complaint of Anaglyph is seeing double images. It varies by set and how it is set up.
The only way i know how to make it less noticeable is to saturate the color by turning up color and picture level. It will make the double images appear more of a shadow than a second image.

I watched Journey last night and the 3D for the most part was awesome

At some points ghosting happened, but I would recommend checking it out. Should be getting Polar Express tonight, if I can find it BB was sold out on Tues night

Doubtful. The colors they used are made to match their movie. It might work as long as the glasses you find are the same colors. You should check to see if they match up. If not, then it won't work.

Having viewed the recent 3D releases of Polar and Journey I'm a bit confused about the picture quality.

On my TV both films, when viewed in 3D, seem very purple and have ghosting - the 3D effects are superb but the colour - or rather, lack of colour drives me to distraction.

Is this purpleish, ghosting normal for a home 3D experience? Is there a way of reducing it and gaining more natural colour in the picture?

Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere - just want a bit of quick technical help!

i haven't purchased a blu 3D film yet, but i am thinking about it. I do however believe what your describing is how it is meant to be, and those colors are why the red-blue 3-D glasses work. It will be sweet when we are able to use digital 3D on our home T.V's and use those normal looking black glasses.
So all in all the 3D effects are good though?

Journey was ok. It was nothing like the theatre.

Viewed Journey last night. Had the EXACT same experience as you. I tried what the disc recommended, increasing brightness (I lowered my energy saving mode) and that didnt help. Color was muted to the point of distraction and ghosting. I disagree with the review here because after watching the 3D version I watched a little of the 2D and the color was vastly superior in 2D.

i agree, i watched journey on 3-D for about 20 min until i couldnt take it anymore. i just need color. the glasses obviously brought a green and red tint to the film. plus i also felt like i was watching the movie crosseyed, i had to turn it off. its cool for the first 10 min, but i cant do a whole movie.

i havent had the chance to watch the film journey to the center of the eart in 3D on blu ray sense i purchased it yesterday.. because it wont play on my LG super multi blu player bh100 it will recognise it and the two screens that are suppose to appear after it starts to read it appear , but when it is about to go to what i believe is the film or main menu it wont read it will just be a black screen with a cd showing and it will seem as if it searching for the dvd over and over again, and then the screen will go black... any help would be useful thank you

Have to say I was disapointed in the lack of color as well, the theatrical version looked awesome, the Blu-ray was very weak, although the 3-D worked well... but the lack of any color was very annoying..

The color problem is a result of Anaglyph. Plus, your tv may not be set up properly for picture.
