Default 360 doing the football games better?

Get a load of this!

Deflated Pigskin: PS3's Football Troubles
How Madden, All-Pro and NCAA ain't looking so good on PS3.

They may call baseball America's pastime, but in the world of videogames, that honor easily belongs to football. No other sport has racked up software sales quite like the pigskin offerings, and no other sport has been so vital to the success (PlayStation 2 having Madden since Day 1) and failure (Dreamcast never got it) of hardware. The importance of this genre is just as relevant today, yet it seems Sony's console ain't sittin' so pretty this time around.

We have confirmed the Xbox 360 versions of Madden NFL 08 (August), All-Pro Football 2K8 (July), and NCAA Football 08 (July) will run at 60 frames per second, whereas the PS3 editions are locked at just 30fps. In the simplest of terms, this means that the 360 versions will run smoother and faster, and you'll have an easier time noticing subtle animations.

While we haven't had the opportunity to see the difference with EA's titles (the publisher hasn't sent us PS3 builds of either), All-Pro Football 2K8 definitely runs better on Xbox 360.
If that ain't gonna piss me off...

Here's a dumb question and not that it excuses any of the above:

Unless I own some newer, high end HDTV...will this frame rate issue even mean anything to me, or is that applicable to pretty much everyone across the boards?

There's no excuses for this! At the very least, it should be dead equal across the boards!

Nope, it's applicable to everyone - even those with crappy TVs. Many years ago with the release of Ridge Racer 4, Sony included a free copy of Ridge Racer 1 that ran at 60 FPS instead of the original 30fps. The difference on that old hardware with my old TV was certainly noticeable.

This EA sports news does suck but really it won't be as big a deal as it could have been....EA sports titles have gone down hill in the last few years IMO.

NCAA Football is incredible. This year's is going to be something else. Madden may even be better this year as well.

But what about All Pro 2k8? A lot of people like me are looking forward to that game and it was one that was literally built from the ground up with both consoles in mind.

You all can read the full article I linked to.

I just think this situation as a whole and growing trend is completely unacceptable and I think Sony needs to put down some more incentives, some foot to ass, or whatever to not have "inferior" versions of games coming out on their system.

This is just plain wrong, any way you cut it.

I'd feel pretty stupid doing that for, at most, three football games and even that's pushing it.

You want a good laugh? Read some of the responses from the readership in that article I linked to. There's some real rabid fanboys in there like that Wii60_FTW guy. He's pathetic.

This is all confusing me.
But I remember reading a while back that the PS2 was harder to program for than the XBOX when they both first came out. Yet there are now TONS of games for the PS2. So will the programming get easier for the PS3?
Besides, despite that fact that XBOX is a MS machine (and I hate MS), I don't see why ppl have to be exclusive for either console.
Which raises another question. With the EU questioning iTunes, and now Blu-ray/HD DVD with distribution rights, has anyone thought about the tons of video games that are only released onto .. say.. the XBOX (or any other exclusive titles on other systems)?

Edge was shipped back in March. If it made a real difference that fast then Madden would be running at 60fps now.

If you're unsatisfied, keep playing last year's football. Football is football is football. The game hasn't changed in 100 years.

There's plenty of great 360 exclusives that don't involve sports that'd be silly to deny yourself because of console fanboyism. Crimson Skies 2, Mass Effect, Gears of War etc.

And before anyone goes after me, I own both Xbox and PS2, and neither PS3 or 360(yet). There's no question Microsoft ****** up and cheaped out on the ir GPU cooling, but the problem has obviously been fixed now, and respect has to be given that unlike Sony's past histories, it didn't take a class action to get the problems fixed(probably because thye were 100% sure they'd lose anyway)

Did you check the latest news? If it isn't one thing it's another. Now they are all (well prolly around 30%) crashing. I don't know if it's a fan thing, or an overheating thing, but I do know a lot of people aren't happy about it.
You are prolly lucky you don't have one (yet).

I didn't mean a lot of people aren't happy with the 360, i meant a lot of people aren't happy with the situation. It is a bad situation. I am not dissing your 360. I am sure yours works fine, but with failure rates reported to be in the 30% range, it is too much of a gamble to go out and buy one. Besides, that was intended for WickyWoo.
I personally have nothing against the 360 (but I still hate MS), just as long as I still get great games on my PS2, Wii, and PS3.
BTW.. the Wii is better than any of them so there :P

The 360 is a great gaming machine! It has great games and they play really well. It has a great online sevice too. But the failure rate is terrible. Its quite sad too see such a great machine be so terribly made.

If only they took a little longer to test it etc. It would be so much better. PS3 fanboys would have nothing on it, apart from it looks quite crap and you have to pay for online. And it only plays DVDs. And the HDD is quite small.

All the problems have been tied to inadequate cooling on the GPU cracking the motherboard or its solder points. All the 360s that have been going out in the last month or so havea massive new heatpiped cooling block on them that should solve the problem.

I will have one this fall, between Rock Band, Mass Effect, the Riddick Prequel and the promise of a new Crimson Skies game at E3 plus the pricedrop to $299 that'll be coming before Halo comes out, I can no longer resist

OK, it was Rock Band that totally broke me

I own about a dozen BR discs, going up all the time, but I'm waiting for Pioneer to ship a non-elite player, because I AM a Pioneer fanboy My Pioneer gear is still going strong years later (DV-414 still runs like the day I got it, even with some ludicrous # of hours on it!).

Well, I've caught deals here and there, and I had a friend in TX raid the Fry's sale for me.

I'll have a chance to play with them sometime in the next few weeks, as I'll have access to a player then.
