Default Will we reach hundred 4K UHD titles this year?

I am counting 94 unique 4K UHD titles that either are released in the US or have a confirmed release date this year. I seem to remember that the goal was 100 titles. The latest added titles have release date in November, so we don't have that much time to reach the magic number 100.

We have a lot of titles. Disney not being on board the format really hurts the title count though.

I don't see Dolby Vision being a thing on UHD blu-ray until after CES in January. I could be wrong but I think we see an influx of TVs and players that support it and then we'll get the announcement of titles.

December is still empty and we'll certainly see at least six titles released in that month.

Dolby has publicly stated we won't see DV encoded discs until the first half of 2017 and capable players until the second half of next year.

There is some speculation that the new Oppo UHD Blu-ray player debuting this year will be firmware updateable to DV since they're using a custom Mediatek chip that may be able to add it later on if it passes Dolby's certification process. If it is upgradeable, I can imagine that Oppo customers will have to pay an additional DV licensing fee to download the update (just like the Auro3D format). It has not been officially confirmed, however.

You can imagine that the timing is just right for Disney releases by the first quarter (February/March).

If you include the imax shout titles, over 100 already for this year. There's a bunch of smaller titles also that push it well past 100.

For a while I was thinking they'd release a Force Awakens UHD BD to coincide with the Rogue One film but at this point it's looking more likely that we'll see it, and probably rogue one as well, sometime in March/April 2017. Along with DV integration, that timing possibly also gives them a chance to enjoy more sales of the EpVII 3D BD.
