Default Does a film download have the same PQ and AQ as a Blu-ray Disc?

Okay... My question is: Does the downloaded version of a Blu-ray movie have the same video and audio quality as a real Blu-ray? My brother mostly downloads his movies and I buy them. He says it has the same video and audio quality as a regular blu because the file just gets a different extension and it doesnt get converted. My Blu's always look better but i think its just because i have a better tv.

I know there are bigger blu junkies than i am... Lets prove him wrong!

For the record, the files he does download could be up to 30 gb's. I think the only difference is that he doesnt get all the menus and such.

Dude a 30 GB download must be killing his bandwidth.
If it's the exact same size, codecs and all that stuff as what's in a Blu then technically I suppose it would be the same quality, without the Box, the interactivity, the menus and so on. Are you sure those are 30 GB files ?
I did not know there were HD download websites out there that offered full sized BD HD movies.
We are talking about legal sites right ?

as far as I know, no downloads have the audio quality. I don't think you can get 5.1 or 7.1 from downloads

I think most of his files are probably 15-25 gb files. And no... they arent legal downloads. His excuse is that they are too expensive. He pisses me off because he says he has more blu's than i do...

There have an option to download a 720p version or a 1080p version... how can they even do that? The 720p is about half the size.

Is there a way to test it?

I doubt the quality would be the same technically since the download version is compressed, but sometime it's hard to notice the differences.

If it is an actual rip, it will play just as the original does, audio and all.
22 - 46GB a pop though... not for me!

Exactly.
And if you have a metered / restricted internet connection - you'll end up sucking up all your bandwith with all the illegal downloading.

Technically he has zero Blu's compared to you since he doesn't own any Blu disk's.

I agree with all the others tho he should not be downloading them. It's illegal and it hurts Blu-Ray sales. As a fan of Blu like your self I don't know how you can stand having him hurt the format like that!!

As far as quality I would think you could get close to if not the same PQ from a download but AQ I don't think you would. Again tho he should just shop around the net there are allot of cheap deals for BD out there if cost is an issue.

The original poster's brother is: downloading Blu-Ray image files from the internet (which are the actual files that make up a Blu-Ray disc) and burning them onto a blank Blu-Ray. In which case, it would be the exact same as a purchased copy.

However, SUPPORT BLU-RAY BY PURCHASES! At least, until they are strong!

Thanks for your input guys... My brother is wrong and he know's it! I'll be going to his house in a while and i'll kick him in the nads... I'll take a REAL blu over and slap him with it too. Then I'll get to Fry's and get a couple more Blu's.
Thanks!
