Default Robert Englund wants to bring back 'Nightmare on Elm Street!' Has an idea for Freddy

According to Bloody-Disgusting, Robert Englund has an idea (Personally, I think it's an ok idea and one of the better ones) to bring back Freddy in a sequel.

He basically wants it to center around the children of dead victims.

'This is impossible with the original Elm Street kids, themselves, as they were all dead by part 4. All were still teen characters by the time they died and none had kids yet.'

However...

Robert Englund's quotes:

“If I was in control of my own Nightmare on Elm Street movie I have an idea I would have liked to see,” said Englund. “I thought it would be great if the children of previous victims, or just kids who grew up hearing stories about Freddy Krueger, were each haunted by their own version of Freddy Krueger. Kids who grew up hearing stories about this Freddy Krueger guy and the awful things he did envisioned him in their own way, and that is the version that begins to haunt them.”

“Some people may picture him as stout, another might envision him as tall and thin, another with a different hat, or a different sweater,” he continued. “He could have different gloves, or even a glove with small razor blades as referred to in the first movie. It would be neat to see very different interpretations of Freddy Krueger based on the child’s vision of who or what Freddy was to them. After all, each person’s subconscious would picture him in a totally different way.”

Cool.

It certainly sounds more creative than anything the remake did. I'd be down for that.

Sound interesting. Which is why it will never happen.

That sounds like a pretty neat idea. Too bad it's nothing but fanfic.

With this concept, it sounds like it would allow Englund as well as Jackie Earl Haley to play the part. Which would be kinda cool, provided they treat Jackie how Toho treated Zilla in Godzilla: Final Wars.

The X Files did a similar thing in the Season 7 episode that parodies a real life cop hidden camera show. In the episode "fear" is killing people off by taking the form of what victims fear the most.

Yeah, that was the crossover they did with Cops. At one point, a victim even describes Freddy Krueger (a police sketch is even shown) as the thing that tried to attack her because he was what she most feared. One of the few later season episodes of The X-Files that I really liked.

There was an old Batman comic where kids around a campfire told stories of how they saw Batman. (They were Wayne Foundation kids camping with Bruce Wayne). Each kid told a different story, and each account featured a different looking Batman costume. It was fantastic! At the end, Bruce jumps in to the circle in his real Batsuit, and the kids all blow him off, saying that's not how Batman looks.

This reminds me of that. I think it could be a great way to combine Freddy with anthology horror.

I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority here, but I wouldn't mind a sequel to the ANOS remake starring Jackie Haley again. An actual remake of Freddy's Revenge would be interesting IMO.

A Freddy anthology movie is actually a really cool idea. I'd love to see something like that.

I would watch the heck out of this. And for a plot twist, it turns into a cult of Freddy Krueger worshippers carrying on his crazy insanity in his honor. So it turns into a Freddy Free for All!

I wonder why he doesn't try writing it himself. I mean, he says "if i was in control." Why not just write it out in prose and work with someone with experience if he's not confident. Or just running it by a producer. He should know plenty of people to get the hook up. I'd be interested in seeing it.

This sounds much better than most of the sequels we got. Still, with all those different Freddy appearances, we'd need at least one nightmare with the original Freddy from the first movie. Need to look exactly the same.

This needs to happen and it needs to star Chloe Moretz and Bella Thorne.

1.) So the "big twist" is just based on how Freddy looks? That's lame. He looked different in New Nightmare, because that was a legitimately different version of the character. But just having his blades longer, or the stripes on his sweater go up and down instead of sideways? Who cares?

2.) For practical considerations, Englund would want nothing to do with this, as it would require A LOT of additional time in the makeup chair. Unless he's just eyeing to direct, and sees this as an elaborate audition to find a new version of Freddy audiences could get behind, by trying different looks (and maybe even actors) in a single project. You know, throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks.

As I understand, it would mean Freddy would be played by different actors. As the interpretation of the child would also mean he could be black, Asian, someone having dwarfism ... Or a total different voice ...

I don't know. I'll know when I see the result.

There's also an episode of Batman: The Animated Series based on the comic from 1973, called Legends of the Dark Knight.
