such an awesome show of the 90's, can't wait till they transfer this baby to Blu-ray.
I know you can get the seasons on DVD, but I want more clarity the entire show was shot on 16mm film, they have to make a blu-ray transfer. a lot of the 60,70,80 & 90's shows were shot on either 16mm or 35mm film. can't wait till all the TV shows go Blu, its amazing most TV shows were shot on such a high definition format and converted and re-broadcast in SD. |

If 3rd Rock really was shot on film, they definitely didn't re-scan the negatives. Looks like they took the tape masters, upscaled + cropped them to 16:9 and added newly rendered text for the credits. Carsey-Werner done a much better job with That '70s Show.

Yep, exactly. I was excited when I saw that they were HD and immediately noticed what they actually did. I think they're the uncut broadcast versions, which is better than what Netflix had prior. I would have to consult my DVD set to confirm this, though.

I was a casual watcher when the show was on and barely remember it, and I started watching it last week. The cropping is bad, really bad in certain scenes, but I'm glad I can watch it in some way without having to buy the DVD's. If I wasn't saving for a new computer I would definitely get them because watching it episode after episode has made me a bigger fan. There are some episodes I can't watch on Netflix though, every season there seems to be a few that are out of sync. :/

Would love a bluray release of this. Might have to just buy the DVD to get the proper aspect ratio. The cropping is SO HORRIBLE. How bad you ask? Well, during season 3, episode 3 “Tricky Dick” Mary and Dick are pranking each other. Dick talks to Mary's mechanic in Spanish in their office, and tells him to do something bad to her car (or something along those lines), but they didn't even bother moving up the subtitles when they cropped it, so unless you speak Spanish, you're out of luck. Pure laziness on their part. Not to mention other more physical jokes being kind of ruined. Cutting peoples faces and reactions in half at the top and bottom of the screen. There’s one where dick smashes a pop up book and you can barely even see him doing it. It’s ridiculous.

I wanted to rewatch the show, so I had a look at the Amazon fake remaster version, and the extreme cropping makes it unwatchable. I know they did the same for The Simpsons, this should be completely forbidden.
![]() So I ended up buying the dvds, and that's so much better (I've almost finished season 1). It's such a funny crazy sitcom. |

I just finished watching the show for the first time and really enjoyed it! My only complaint is the alternate ending should have been the actual ending of the show, imo. I may have to pick up the DVDs, since after reading this I highly doubt there are Blu-ray plans for any time soon.
