Default All Regions

Hello, I was just looking for Blu Ray movies on amazon.co.uk and found that they are selling Underworld Evolution with a regional encoding of All Regions, I though that all Blu Rays were regionally encoded?...

Excellent, so it could be worth me buying a few titles from other countries then. I think the UK import duties are only applied for goods over £18, so that would mean I'd have to buy each title individually and pay shipping for each one?...Or try and find a seller that doesn't charge international shipping.

Rule of thumb ALL Fox titles are region encoded, Warner & Paramount never region encode and the other studios sometimes - normally recent releases. I have a number of titles that are marked region A but work perfectly in a region B player. I however also have a region ABC that thinks it's not region B.

This is true for the releases in USA. The European market is different as usually. Sony has infact said that ALL their releases in Europe will be region free. The do have some early releases with region coding. Fox have released region free discs in Europe lately. Maybe they are going to change their strategy in USA also. One can only hope.

PAL and NTSC does not exists in the HighDef world. It's 720P, 1080i and 1080p and it's the same format around the world.

PAL and NTSC is a thing of the past now and belongs to DVD and VHS. Blu-ray and HD-DVD (even if the name might lure you) is not DVD:s.

For me living in the US, I tried a couple of import DVD's in my PS3 and they didn't work (PAL OR NTSC). Maybe I have a setting wrong on my player, but I doubt that.

blu ray just need to scrap region encoding. with how easy it is to import hardware and software there is no point to it anymore.

depends on where you are but most dvds would have to correspond with the players region code ,blu-ray or not ,unless your player has been somehow unlocked and made region free ,I keep an lg player upshift 1080i player just for my international dvds so I can watch my blakes 7 and other british sci fi here in the states

Region coding is not there to make people in the US's lives harder, it's to stop other people from buying the US movies, because we often get stuff much faster and cheaper than other countries, and to protect the sales of the small distributors in small territories

Sure Ghost Rider is launching everywhere the same day, but are catalog titles and smaller films? Nope.

The lack of region coding was also a big factor in HD DVDs disfavor. Which is why they've got an initiative going to start phasing it in in 2008, not that they'll have much of a chance to.

Fox wants to do it and whether it is because of a contractual requirement or wanting separate prices for separate markets or other doesn't matter, it is their right and it is one of the reasons Fox is Blu-ray exclusively so be glad Blu-ray has the option.
