Flesh for Frankenstein is a 3-D movie? Wow, I never even knew that. The Criterion DVD release is nearly 20 years old; it's unfortuante that they (or someone else, if the rights have moved on) haven't released this title on 3-D Blu-Ray.

Yeah this has been discussed on Home Theater Forum. There are issues with the director/rights owner Paul Morrissey

Just browsed through the thread - that's unfortuante. It doesn't sound as if Morrissey is unwilling to see it released, he just doesn't want to pay for the work on the 3-D (amazing how entitled some of these old-school entertainment types can be).

Could this title be another option for Kickstarter? If we could fund the 3-D Film Archive's efforts, it sounds like a release could be possible.

Bob said on HTF:

"Morrissey ignored all the rules of stereoscopic cinematography. There's just no way to fix some of the shots in the film, including the one I've posted."

See left and right eye frames below.

Andy Warhol's Frankenstein is the title for the 3-D version, Flesh for Frankenstein is the title that the 2-D version is usually referred to as.

I am no expert on this particular film, but I do find online at least one piece of advertising art giving the title as (get this) Andy Warhol's Flesh for Frankenstein and making explicit mention of SpaceVision 3-D. The art I'm looking at is obviously for a presentation in the U.K. Is it possible that one title has been used chiefly in the United States and the other has been used chiefly in Europe?

Sure, it won't be perfect, but that's no reason for it not to be released. That quote also implies that some of the footage can be fixed or improved. I'm sure there's nobody better than the 3-D Film Archive to get the film looking as good as it's ever going to in 3-D.

According to Wikipedia, Flesh for Frankenstein is the original title, while Andy Warhol's Frankenstein was used for its US release. Based on information from the HTF thread, the director seems to prefer original title, so that's what I choose to call it, personally; flat or otherwise.

And..Flesh for Frankenstein's screening cancelled due to technical issues...replaced with Creature from the Black Lagoon. Attended Taza screening tonight first half before 10 minute intermission virtually unwatchable due to misalignment (still shots/motion ok, people moving or talking looked as if in a Zbigniew Rybczynski video...2nd half looked great..

Mr. Morrissey made $20 Million plus dollars on some Hamptons property that he forgot he even owned a few years ago, so I don't know why he's being cheap about paying for a 3D conversion. He may be in talks with Criterion regarding putting out all of his Warhol-branded films with them, as I know he has had meetings with them recently. That's just wishful thinking on my part.

Yes ideally "Blood for Dracula" would be the companion movie since that was also shot/released in 3D

Blood for Dracula was never made as a 3d movie
