Cool The unofficial Blu-ray "slogan" thread

whats your best blu-ray spinoff catch phrase, pun or slogan? or even commercial idea?

personally... i'm a fan of the will ferrell line out of old school

"you're my boy, blue! you're my boy!" yours?

Default New slogan for Blu

Hello everyone,

A friend came over to check out my setup the other day, and he had was extremely impressed. For reference, my setup is a 32 inch samsung 720p, and a PS3. A good setup, but most likely pales in comparison to some of the ones people have on this forum. But anyways, thats neither here nor there. So we're watching Casino Royale, and within 10 minutes he turns to me and says:

"This is ridiculous."
"What is?"
"The picture, it's like better than real life."

So I'm voting for the new slogan of blu-ray to "better than real life."

What does everyone think?

I like it, however perhaps we should wait until your friend sees it on a full 1080p display with 7.1 surround and see what slogan he comes up with then.

That's true. A better display will definitely produce a better slogan. It just so happens my grandparents have a 1080p 50 inch plasma. Yes thats right my grandparents, lol. But the frustrating thing is all they have hooked up to it is a VCR, and they don't even pay for HD cable. wtf....

I think the first slogan will be better, for some reason, I think his slogan after seeing this setup will be something like:

HOLY "EXPLITIVE"!

And we really can't us that in an ad campaign can we

Boy... I hope for your sake that holiday celebrations don't take place at their house. Just knowing that I'm within 100 yards of a setup like that would completely destroy any sense of joy within my life; regardless of the occasion!!! My heart bleeds for you my friend.

Hey, if you have a Hi-Def player of any kind, you should bring it over to their house and show them what they are missing out on. I would love to see my grandfather react to the system I'll be putting together once I move to Vancouver!

Well, I have taken my PS3 over there a couple times to watch a movie. And I made a big deal out of it because I took some blankets over to cover their windows. This sounds retarded, but their tv has a really bad problem with glare. I'm not sure if this is a problem all plasmas have or if its just theres. But anyways, they only watched the movie a little bit, but they didnt say too much about it. I guess they just aren't into technology enough to notice the difference. Sad, but what can you do.?

Well, In Germany, there´s a slogan for HDTV that says:

"HDTV, sharper than reality"

No Blu player yet, but just a back-pat of support--
Got my first HDTV this weekend as a 32" Sharp 720 (long story*)--And I've been spending the whole weekend on the "honeymoon" of figuring out upconverting-DVD screen ratios, and discovering the joys of a built-in QAM tuner.

(Like, finding out that having no cable box means you keep picking up what everyone else is On-Demand ordering, and dang, "300" in Hi-Def looks Better Than Real Life{TM}. )

----
* - A neighbor was moving, and I was about to buy his 34" 1080i tube-set for less than half of what he paid for it in '04...Until I discovered that the set would've taken up my entire limited living room space, and I had to turn him down.
Still, got me to realize that I could stop looking at 40" screens, which helped narrow down the price range, and that I wasn't going to get 1080p at the size I was looking for--So, one fortuitous trip to Best Buy later...

I know how frustrating it can be! I posted before on video connections and people who up-graded to 1080p sets and used their DVD player's boxed cables instead of opting for HDMI. The video was on par with a VCR. They then say the PQ was no better then the old set, some even say it is worse. You can't expect somone who uses this connection to also know to turn their sharpness control down.

The industry has a way of keeping the public in the dark. Studies show that over 50% don't know how to use their HDTV when they buy it. The wrong cables that come with every purchase is part of the problem. We need to push HDMI so it comes with new hardware, so the lowest common denominator composite video does is not used by default.

I don't know what is worse: VCR to Plasma, or a PS3's 1080p Blu-ray reduced to NTSC through the composite video cords. At any rate, I have the same issue with my granparent's LCD TV.

I think for some, the video cable issue will only be solved if we take a hint from Apple: Just intergrate everything into one slim pakage and make the choice for them. No puttering around with cables, just push play. And then throw the whole set out the window when the built-in player does not work.
