...thats cool about the patriot....maybe i should just buy that instead of a calibration dvd. now that i think of it, there are hdtv calibration dvds available....are these worth the money compared to a professional calibration?

Calibration DVDs are worth it. But, most of them I've seen are a little pricey. They really try to rape you for a DVD that takes you through a 5-10 minute walk-through to set up your TV. Although I haven't searched around online much. You may be able to find a calibration DVD for a good price online. However, a lot of DVDs as well as some Blu-ray movies have a calibration feature which when followed properly will make your TV look pretty close to an official calibration DVD. I'd just buy a movie that has something like that on it.
Otherwise you're looking at a couple hundred dollars to have a tech come to your house and calibrate your TV. They get into all the service menus though and change everything and set it to like, industry perfect settings. But, a calibration disc or calibration feature on a DVD will likely please you just as much. I'd just get one of those over actually having someone come out and doing it. Spend that money on something else. |

Lots of THX certified movies have the optimizer on them, but a lot of them are disc specific. Now you can take any Sony Blu-Ray, and punch in SONY (I think it's 7669) on your remote on the main menu, and the same test paterns will appear. But I do recommend AVIA... If you can, just rent it. That's what I did.
