Default Media storage for large collections?

So my collection just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I am up to around 1200 blu-rays. I currently have 3 Atlantic media cases which are very flimsy. I have made due with them for a while now but I would like to get something a little nicer and sturdier. I was looking into the IKEA Billy bookcases but 11 inch depth leaves about 5 inches of empty space and I don't think I could deal with that. Does anyone have any experience with the drawer case like these ones?? Part of me likes having them on display though but part of me also likes having them incognito. Any thoughts or suggestions on other good storage options for large collections?

http://www.dvdcabinet.com/CD-storage-DVD-storage.htm

I want something that holds at least 2000 blu-rays since I have around 300 or more games as well.

I know this is not exactly what you are looking for, but in case you change your mind have a look at some of these. I have 4 units to handle my collection and room to grow. Glass sliding doors makes it easy to see what movie I am looking for and keeps the dust out. I then place the display stuff on top of the cabinet.

I bought mine at a different place but I cannot seem to find their site anymore, and I do not see my exact cabinets on their site, but some look very close. I do not think you are going to find a single unit that holds your entire collection, it will take at least 2 units depending on what you end up getting.

You can always build your own shelving, which allows you to customize the dimensions to your own preference. All you need is shelving, brackets, mounting hardware and paint.

This is what I use and I love them. They hold a lot and don't take up a lot of space.

Sorry I don't have any info on those cases Syxxpac but bro, can I call you bro? Bro, you have to display your movie especially if you have some cool LE/SE's you really like.

I have a few of the Hemnes units from IKEA and I really like them. I'm not sure if they're as deep as the Billys. It's possible they could be deeper which I know you don't want. They are great cases though. I do like that bit of extra room in case you wanted to display a little extra something like a prop.

So it looks like the ones I posted are really expensive. It would probably cost around $2000 for what I need out of those which is not really ideal.

Thanks! Those actually look pretty nice with the glass doors. I'm expecting to need at least 2 or maybe 3 of whatever I decide to get. These look a lot more sturdy than what I am currently using as well. Thanks for the recommendations.

I thought of this too. I am not very handy so I can look into finding someone who would be able to do it for me and find out how much it would cost.

These are interesting however I have everything alphabetized and these might be harder to add to the collection and keep them alphabetized.

I'll admit that alphabetizing can be a bit of a pain but I have mine all alphabetized too. Keep in mind that I have my CD,DVD and Blu-Ray collections stored in these towers. What I do is keep an area just for the new stuff that I purchase and then when there are a lot of them, then I start from the beginning and add the new stuff in alphabetically. At first, it seems like a daunting task but after a few times it gets easier and you can do it faster. These are inexpensive and easy to put together and I love the small amount of space that they take up. Ideal for a large collection. If you have any questions, let me know.

hah that is exactly how I do it. I have a new release shelf and don't put them in with the rest until it gets full. They claim to hold about 832 blu-rays so I would only need 2 of them. Well I guess I would need a 3rd for my games. Thanks! These will now be added to the list of possible options. Need to get the fiancé's opinion on all of the different ideas.

The shelves are fully adjustable too so you can use them for just about anything and there's not a lot of wasted space. Just a word of caution. If you buy them, they will have a lot of saw dust on them. Wipe all of that off while you're assembling them and be CAREFUL. The sawdust makes them slippery. I had one almost complete and went to pick it up off of the floor and it slipped out of my hand. I almost moved out of the way fast enough. One trip to the hospital. It cut right through the nail on my right big toe. Lost most of the nail, four stitches and broke the toe!!

Those really big wall units with sliding glass doors are very nice - I just wish they would have a black version - I would order one right now if they did...

Most of all you will need to have carpentry skills, tools, experience and know how to accurately read a tape measure if you're building it from scratch, which can be very time consuming. After you go to the store to buy all the materials, and finding the time to build it, (and time is valuable), it's much easier, convenient and probably cheaper to buy one. If you buy it from a furniture store and don't want to put it together yourself, they will assemble it for you, but you will have to pay extra. Then all you have to do is pick it up when it's done.

I have 2 black units, and dark cherry all with sliding glass doors. My fourth unit is a solid door on each side that opens outward with shelves in the door too. That site is just one place I found with units similar to mine. Keep searching and you should find something in black, whether or not it will be the largest unit out there is another question as my black units only hold about 2/3 of my dark cherry unit. Coincidence or perhaps the larger units fetch more if in wood colors? Also, these sites usually offer units in different colors, not just the color shown in the picture. Double check the options for a black choice, just in case. Good luck with it.

With blockbuster and Hastings closing near me, I've seen storage solutions for very, very cheap.
