Box Office Ticket Prices soon to rise?

Looks like AMC is considering a variable ticket pricing strategy for high profile Hollywood films.

Ticket prices for high-profile Hollywood movies may soon rise, as AMC Entertainment explores the possibility of variable ticking pricing.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, AMC CFO Craig Ramsey said the company is considering a more flexible price structure after its recent acquisition of Odeon & UCI Cinemas, during a session at the MKM Partners Entertainment, Leisure and Consumer Technology Conference.

Ramsey noted that Odeon & UCI Cinemas "are further advanced in variable pricing, where tentpole movies are priced up on release," which is something AMC has discussed and considered implementing in the United States.

Someone should really tell the studios if they are truly hurting for cash which I seriously doubt any of them are. They should stop paying these overpriced actors and directors 10 million dollars + per film. 150 million dollar films are just dumb every once in a while sure but every film seems to have a budget over 100 million. Now because of the stupidity of the studios here go ticket prices yet again.

A lot of people are already fed up with the pricing and hassle of watching movies at a theater (overpriced concessions, dealing with shitty audiences, etc.). Studios and some theaters keep trying to gouge the consumer left and right. We already have to deal with bullshit 3D surcharges and now everyone's trying to push this 4DX and D-Box nonsense. I think this will be the "last straw" for a lot of moviegoers.

This seems to be more a move by theater chains than studios.

When have ticket prices not gone up? It's gradual most of the time, but it's consistent.

Obviously, AMC wants to recoup the money from their recent acquisitions. And the same thing is that no one will try to stop them in raising prices or creating a monopoly.

And don't blame actors' salaries. The fact that Hollywood casts the same few people in everything and ignores the talent pools in TV and other countries shows that they spend less and less on talent and more money on CGI and lobbying in getting those tax credits
