To all you region B people,
I have purchased 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' and noticed that the disc I have been given is the American version: 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' in region B (in my case Australian) packaging! I was wondering if everyone else in our region has the same thing - region B case, American movie? |

It is WB release, what did you expect? Just be glad you did not get hd-dvd in your bd box, they had issues with that also.
Contact where you bought it and maybe they can fix it for you. |

According to http://bluray.liesinc.net/index.php?region=b , for some reason the Australian version is "Sorcerer's Stone", while the UK is the original Philosopher's Stone title. So all the Australian discs are wrong. You'll have to import it from the UK (or Japan, as I've rented the disc and the title and dialogue all say Philosopher's Stone) if you want the original title/dialogue.

That's what I dislike so much about the USA, our stranglehold on cinema and video. Notice how all versions of, say, TDK always say "A Christopher Nolan Film" and "The Dark Knight" in English on the front cover irrespective of the BD's country of origin. Yet, if the US did a BD release (don't get me started on our comparative lack of foreign BDs either) from France, it wouldn't say "Un film de..." on the box, it would say "A film by..." or something similar in English.
Edit: I suppose I should give credit where credit is due. The French TDK Steelbook art DOES have the French title "Le Chevalier Noir" in tinier print below the English title... Last edited by McCrutchy; 01-02-2009 at 11:33 PM. |

i think it's more disturbing when they don't even bother to remove the FBI logo's and rantings about US legislation on straight ports of Region A releases.
quite easy to spot in advance tho - if a disc only has english and latin spanish subs it's not a very bold guess it's a 1:1 copy of the US disc. i do believe this practice was more common on the HD DVDs tho, haven't seen it quite as often on my aussie BD imports.
