Arrow Dark Knight approaches $1 billion

Nikki Finke is reporting:

Any day now, 2008's biggest blockbuster The Dark Knight will be topping $1 billion worldwide. Warner Bros tells me that it's already reached $997.5 ($528.5 million domestically and $469 million internationally) since its North American release on July 18th. It's already the 2nd highest domestic grossing pic of all time behind only the $600.8 million domestic haul of 1997/1998's Titanic. And it's the 4th highest worldwide grossing pic behind #1 Paramount/Fox's Titanic ($1.8M), #2 New Line's The Lord of the Rings 3: The Return of the King ($1.1M), and #3 Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest. (None of these rankings are adjusted for inflation or ticket prices.)

WB says it's only $2.5 million away. The-Numbers updates international numbers only once a week. Even then, the Studios have the final numbers (it's the studios that report the numbers in the first place).

I'm just so happy it's doing VERY, VERY great that Nolan would be an complete idiot if he didn't do the 3rd, which I think he will.

Just think all, under a month and we'll have it in our homes on Blu!!!

Do you mean surpass Titanic with Titanic being changed for inflation or regularly? Because with inflation it'd be pretty hard.

Not necessarily. Inflation wasn't too bad in 10 years. When adjusting for inflation, I think Titanice is like 5th or something anyway. Gone With the Wind is number 1 when accounting for inflation, I think.

Yep Gone With The WInd is still number 1 with inflation with Episode 4 in second place.

The inflation for movie tickets went way, way up in the last 10 years. I'm almost 25 and when I was 15, I was paying only $4.25 to see a movie. Today, it's $9.95 at my local theatre. In fact, the matinee was only around $2.75 at that time.

There are some theatres in some cities around here where you would have to pay $14 a ticket.

i don't think it stands a chance. it will be on dvd and blu-ray by the time of its re-release (if it even happens) and those who haven't seen it will probably just rent it. or maybe buy it.
