I got mine at circuit city and bought the 2yr extended plan just for the piece of mind since the ps3 has so much technology packed into it. I got the plan for only $80 (employee price) but I think it's only like $120 for regular customers. We also offer an accidental damage plan too in case u drop kick it across the room u can still get it replaced!!! lol... i believe the accidental damage plan is like $180 for 2yrs.

Best Buy's 2 year replacement plan is $100 if I remember, and that was before the price drop so it might be cheaper. With that you walk in and get a new one if yours breaks. It doesn't cover physical damage, but it's not like you carry it around with you and are dropping it. I got it . . . I know I sound old, but I'm not, I'm 26, but things don't seem to be made the way they used to. My NES still works, while I'm on my third Xbox 360 and second PS2.

I would not buy one if I where you, save your money and get some games, controllers, or movies.
The PS3 has a reported less than 1% failure rate, not worth the $60-$110 additonal bucks if you ask me. Also the warranty it comes with will more than cover that 1%. Now if you where getting a 360 with 33% failure rate, than by all means by the warranty. |

I wouldn't buy one. The sales people are going to try hard to sell you one just as with any electronics. That's because it is a huge money making sceem. Typically when they start trying to push warranties off on me for electronic devices I will ask questions like "is this product really such low quality that I will need it?" Then they will normally start to back talk. Then if they remain pushy I will just walk out and tell them I am going elswhere to buy a quality product that doesn't need an extended warranty. If you do that make sure you watch the expression on there face as you walk out. Of course I could probably buy about 5 PS3s for what I have save from not buying extendend warrenties on electronics.

I purchased the extended warranty from Best Buy, mainly because they mentioned at check out "Look what happened with the Xbox 360". If I was buying it now rather than last December, I'm not sure if I still would purchase it. I think I probably still would. I tend to follow the reasoning that it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Actually, I just did a little research on Sonystyle.com regarding Sony's extended service plans, and price-wise they seem unbeatable. Just check out this link:
http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...151&langId=-1# Just click on "PRICING" on the above listed webpage. Last edited by gvortex7; 07-10-2007 at 08:33 PM. |

When you look at the link above, just go to the price range of the PS3 and it'll give you options for 2, 3 or 4 years. There are even options for accidental damage as well. The most expensive plan (including accidental damage protection) is the 4 year one at $119.99. That's a great price in my opinion.

The other good thing about Best Buy's plan is that they usually don't dive into asking questions if you say you have a problem. It's good to have if they put out some variant of the system, like they did with the 360 elite or the 80 gig ps3. That's how I ended up getting the elite, I took my regular one in with my replacement plan and paid the 80 bucks difference. Since the system was still under warranty I didn't have to buy a new replacement plan either. If they ever come out with the silver ps3 I may do the same thing. While the ps3 has been reliable, there are exceptions and the warranty doesn't give you an instant in store replacement. But, I like the peace of mind.
