Post CES 2017, what will we see and what's the future

We've all heard the rumors, Sony, Panasonic, LG and maybe others with 4K HDR OLED displays. What sizes, specs, prices and launch dates will we expect?

Here's our first tip, check out the enormous exhibit booth Panasonic will have on the main hall at CES. Plus private meeting rooms at the convention center and private off premises suites for VIP meetings.

And how about Sony's new UBP-X1000E UHD/HDR Universal player/streaming/storage device. Will it surpass all other premium UHD BD players. Price, availability are all questions we want the answers to.

What can we expect from Samsung with the next gen of locally dimmed transmissive QLED in ultra large screen sizes with exciting specs and performance?

Hisense, TCL and other Chinese suppliers... will they lead the way in price/performance choices for low priced market? What new TVs and DAV products will they showcase at CES?

Some of our staff and I are arriving into Las Vegas on Monday, January 2, 2017 for pre-CES meetings and to attend the press conferences.

Use this thread to discuss the upcoming products and technologies and to ask questions. I'll be reporting news as it breaks and finding out the answers to the tough questions that we all are anxiously waiting for.

I'll be arriving on the 4th. This will be my 3rd CES and the dome of OLED that LG had last year was amazing. Can't wait to see what this year brings.

Lots of questions heading into CES, hopefully we get all the answers.

Will samsungs new qled make black level or viewing angle Improvements?

What will the new brightness of the oleds be?

Will sonys new oled truly be 2999 and will it be dumbed down to keep the Z9D as their flagship?

Most curious about 2017 Sony and LG OLED's. 2017 is the year I want to replace my EF9500.

Yep, I tend to lean toward the fact that Sony and Panasonic have been better at nailing down calibration control and video processing vs what I have seen from LG so far.

I have my doubts that the Panasonic version would be “cheap”, but Sony’s claims are of interest. Should be a good year for OLED customers with LG’s new claim of 99% DCI and 1000 nits.

Interested to see if other manufacturers, like a Denon or Pioneer, have any 4K disc player offerings...

@elwaylite, for the most part I agree, but LG has fixed and enhanced the CMS and grey scale for FHD/SDR and UHD/HDR in the 2016 4K OLED TVs and Sony does not have CMS, but they come out of the box very well set so we actually don't need to tweak the CMS.

Yes, 2017 will be a big year for consumer display advancements and product selection.

@Cranston37, I'm on a mission to search out all UHD BD players. I have a keen interest and am optimistic we'll see and learn more about Sony and LG with UHD BD product development. I also have appointments with Denon, Marantz and Pioneer as well as most other UHD device manufacturers.

7 days and counting until my flight departs to Las Vegas

I have read rumors Demon will release a UHD Blu-ray player known as the UHDBD-666 player next month. I have read rumors that it will have a MSRP of $666, but some retailers may discount it to $616.

It will come pre-packaged with several exclusive 4K releases from several studios, including Warner's "The Devil's Advocate", Universal's "End of Days", and Fox's "The Omen" and "The Sound of Music".

It will have streaming apps, but all streaming apps will only output at 480i 4:3. It won't bitstream audio, but it will output PCM Stereo 2.0.

Curious about the Sony OLEDs and whether they will have 3D and ofcourse the Sony UHD player. I'm also curious of the 3D support in general, hopefully more manufacturers will include it in their TVs.

Is this a joke or are you being serious? I'm guessing it's a joke that Robert misspelled Denon.

And Who in the world would buy a 4k player and have any interest in a streaming app at 480i?? Lol

Btw, I loved End of Days with Arnie.

If you have to ask me if it's a joke (it is), you apparently didn't read it closely enough.

See edited post. I was pretty confused as I thought you both misspelled Denon.

I don't usually call attention to people's typo unless I found it funny, but it was too easy to imagine what a "Demon" UHD Blu-ray player might be like.

Nah, just giving Robert a hard time.

Yeah, I strangely enjoyed "End of Days" as well...

I think HDMI 2.1 will be announced. I wonder if an update can be done via firmware alone or new hardware is needed.

If hardware was needed, wouldn't it be called hdmi 3.0? If hdmi 2 can't be updated, it needs to be called 3. But yes I've heard 2.1 will be announced too.

I don't know, but with all the weird sh*t going on in the world, all the violence and wars, all the earthquakes, the "Brexit" and the prez election, looks like a clever final sign of the Apocalypse. Whoever buys this "Demon" UHD BD player for $666 (and all the Satanic movies bundled with it) will all be inscribed with the Mark of the Beast. The head honcho of D&M Holdings would have to be the Anti-Christ, and we'd all pretty much be going to Hell in a bucket!! Eww, weird!!!!!

Did I just say all this stuff?!?
