Default The Sight & Sound best blu-ray's of 2016

Sight & Sound have published their annual 'best of' blu-ray and DVD lists for 2016.

http://www.bfi.org.uk/sight-sound-ma...-blu-rays-2016

Clarke, Rivette and Napoleon dominate, which was to be expected, but it's in the details where it might be of most interest.

Does anyone know if the Japanese release of Four Nights Of A Dream has English subs?

Some great lists there. Surprised to see The Hired Hand mentioned so many times...I've yet to watch mine yet but suspect it'll please me until Criterion UK finally announce McCabe & Mrs. Miller for the UK market (amongst many others).

Somebody in the BFI team listed a new Len Lye DVD I didn't know existed and might be impassioned enough to import it, though I do already have the French DVD 'Rhythms'. I've said it before, but if the BFI were looking to do some more experimental/animated stuff on Blu-ray, you could do worse than Len Lye and/or Norman McLaren. I compilation of either of their work would be immediate purchases if they were to ever be a possibility. In my opinion they're both more essential than even Stan Brakhage (especially Lye).

Interesting that Nick Wrigley mentions he almost got Body Double, Fat City and The Last Detail for Masters of Cinema. Didn't he leave Eureka some years ago, or did he mean more recently? Perhaps he was involved in their recent Sony deal, but was instead roped into the Indicator series. Who knows! Anyway, I'm very excited for The Last Detail and Fat City especially, out of Indicator's upcoming slate, and Body Double was in my own 'Best of 2016' list for DVDBeaver.

Johnny Guitar got a few mentions as well. I really hope Eureka (or somebody else, if they can get a deal with Paramount) can get it, along with some others Olive released in the US (particularly High Noon). I saw it on Netflix a couple of weeks ago and can't shake it - I might have to watch it again actually! Would be perfect for MoC, and I'm sure they'd provide some great extras.

No it doesn't. It's a beauitful looking disc, I watched it three nights (ha) in a row during the summer. One of the best films I've seen.

I didn't really like The Hired Hand. Big fan of westerns too (at one point my own top 5 featured 3 of them, and the final one features 2), but it just never really clicked in to gear for me.

I've held out on the Johnny Guitar upgrade, as I've already got the first US blu-ray. Fingers crossed MoC get it.

What a shame. I'd be alright with it, but my wife would struggle. I wonder who has it here?
