This stuff looks absolutely amazing in regular Broadcast HD... I can't imagine how great the BD and UHDBD will look. I'm going to be all over this release for sure.

Do all US UHDTV's support 25fps content? Or will the US release be slowed down to 24fps?

I didn't see it mentioned on Amazon but will the 4K release include BD as well?
I don't have a 4K tv yet, but will gladly get the 4K version for only $10 more if it has BD.
I totally missed this airing on TV, so I checked IMDB for the S1 airdates...can anyone explain what that means? The fist episode aired after all the rest?

I believe the January date is for the US broadcast. The other dates are from the original BBC airing.

Also, just saw on the front page here that the 4K cover states 4K and bluray. You should be set with the 4K release.

BD and 4k for this was inevitable, and it will not be a limited release. Although cool, it's expected.

What I would prefer to see happen is the first Planet Earth series getting a proper BD, or *gasp* 4k, release. I would love a Planet Earth I & II 4k UHD set.

Anyone think PEII could generate enough interest to get PEI redone?

Shot in Ultra HD also, hopefully kept at 4K thoughout the production chain resulting in what should be a reference UHD BD.

So there are pre-orders pages but no firm release dates yet?

Might be impatient and order the UK set, but then, the US 4k option.... hmmm.

The image display on amazon.com web page is square, unusual from a typical portrait format. Are they using a different packaging this time, like the oversized one they use for some of Disney's Big Sleeve titles:

It's because it hasn't been announced yet, which also means the artwork isn't finalized and ready to be sent out to promote it so they just use movie/tv promo art until they have something official. The series won't air in the US until January 28th, so I wouldn't expect any release to come out before March 7th. Probably will be announced after it finishes and released a month later.

While we're on that subject, since this is airing on BBC America this time instead of Discovery, does anybody know if David Attenborough will be kept on this time or if they're having somebody else narrate it for the US broadcast again?

All reports thus far have stated that his narration will be used for the US airings as well. Hopefully they've learned their lesson with hiring celebrities to narrate these releases and just stick with Attenborough himself from now on.

Debating if I should splurge extra for the 4K release to be "future proof"

Since the 4K release does include the Blu-Rays too.

This does look amazing......

See that Amazon.ca has both releases (BD/4K) cheaper then in the US Amazon.com, currently.

What to do?

I'll be importing from the UK for original, non-converted framerate, but that will be Blu-ray only.

I'm guessing the 4K version contains only 4K discs and not regular Blu-ray discs as well?

I really want to future proof and buy the 4K but I won't be getting a 4K set for another year or so.

On Amazon Canada, the HD version is $39.64 and UDH is $52.49. Not bad pricing.

Huh, BBC.com is listing the release date as March 17th for the Region 1 version.

And the pricing is cheaper than what Amazon.ca is listing for UHD ($47.98 vs. $52.49), but more expensive for 1080p ($42.98 vs. $39.64).
