Hey guys,
Here is what I was recommended from a local store here. I was able to sit down and listen to them and they sound amazing but I want to hear from the experts here and see if for the price I'm paying I'm better off getting something else. I'm looking to upgrade my setup from 2008 and I've been out of the "game" since then in terms of keeping up to date. I feel like back then it was all about Marantz and Onkyo for receivers but I've heard more and more complaints about Onyko these days. For speakers, I have Polk satellite speakers (RM 705) which I personally love, but the center is a bit weak. I want to keep my sub and my 2 rears and want to make sure that everything will play nice together. Here is what I'm looking to upgrade: Paradigm (PA-Center 1) ~300 before tax Paradigm (PA-Monitor-9V7) ~1100 before tax Yamaha RX-1060 ~1300 before tax Please keep in mind, that these are CAD prices ![]() My main concern I suppose is Yamaha? Usually I'm the type of person who will get something that specific for what I want, so a company that does only audio but in this day in age, that seems harder and harder to find. Paradigm, I've always heard good things but there are some Polk here that are much cheaper at Best Buy but not sure if those are worth getting or not. As I said, I know that this is definitely an upgrade on what I have now, my main questions are regarding Paradigm and Yamaha in general. Thanks guys and feel free to ask questions. I'm looking to decide on this in the next couple days. |

You should have no qualms about going with Yamaha, esp. since you are looking at an AVR from their Aventage line. I've had a 3030 Aventage for a while now and am very pleased with it. Excellent performance, very good feature set, and the build quality is excellent. As far as mainstream brands, the only other brand I would shop/compare Yamaha against would be Marantz.

I agree completely with Midnight Rambler about Marantz being the only AVR line to look at other than Yamaha Aventage.
Yamaha pairs nicely with the Monitor line from Paradigm. I had a Yamaha Aventage 2010 driving Monitor 9's, Center 3, Surround 3's and Atoms in a 7.2 Set up. I was VERY pleased. My only suggestion would be to go with a Center 3 instead of a Center 1. I am very certain that you will be happy with your choices! Best of luck to you! |

Thanks guys for the info and feedback, much appreciated
![]() I still live in a condo and space is somewhat limited, so I feel like the Center 3 would be a bit of an overkill and would be blend in too much with the left and right speaker. I'm going from a 5.1 satellite speakers to this setup so it's going to be a HUGE difference. I also went ahead with the 2060 instead, so that I'll be able to add 4 speakers for atmos later on or to do a 7.1 with double amplification. |
