Default Wall-E

I puchased Wall-E yesterday and the audio is 5.1 not 6.1 as advertised on this web site. Has anyone noticed that? Also while playing the movie it locked up my player twice , it would reach a scene and then just freeze, I would actually have to unplug my sony blu-ray to get it to restart. has anyone had this happen with a bluray dvd?

Default Wall-E

I puchased my copy at best Buy and it clearly shows audio 5.1 on the back cover.

mwilliams, what kind of player do you have? We have a Sony BDP S1 and also had ours lock up twice during the movie. But we didn't have the latest firmware update installed prior to playing...in fact we were a few updates behind. We've installed the latest firmware updates now and we'll see what happens the next time we play it.

We had to turn off our system and restart. We have experienced this in the past, but very rarely and not in a while. It is frustrating.

We also have another problem that I mentioned today in the large Wall E thread. We can't access the set up features. Perhaps someone can help on that one either here or on the other thread.

I have the same player , but my firmware has been updated , I think the latest version is 4.0 or 4.8. I haven't had this happen with any other movies. I'm taking it back to the store today , hoping it's just a bad DVD.

Back cover and slip cover say 5.1 but 6.1 shows up when playing the disc (in the PS3 anyway). Movie played fine in mine also.

Actually, maybe that's the issue. Maybe he grabbed the DVD by mistake.

4.20 is the latest firmware for that player. Did you try the setup features? Were you able to access them? That's what we had trouble with. If you did, what keys did you use?

It is DTS ES 5.1, not discrete 6.1. The extra channel is matrixed. DTS-HD MA is 5.1 as well, though you should turn on ES if it doesn't automatically enable it.

I rented a copy from redbox on blu and it displayed on my PS3 as 6.1 DTS-HDMA.

When you hit display, it actually said 6.1 DTS-HD MA? Because mine says 5.1 and the bitrate is about where a 5.1 track would be.

EDIT: I actually found out what it is... For some reason, if you have a system that doesn't accept discrete 7.1 signals, the PS3 says the track is only 5.1. Most of the time it'll say how many channels it actually is, and then it'll just downmix it. It this case, it actually says the track is only 5.1 for some reason. Which makes me think that the extra channel isn't discrete but still matrixed as I don't think there's a way to flag DTS-HD MA for DTS ES if you follow me. Which would explain why on the core it's matrixed and not discrete as well.

I guess I have to check it again. I'm sure my Onkyo 605 receiver can except 7.1 signals

This is really odd since I have the 3-disc version from Best Buy and at first I played it on my Sony BDP-S550 bitstreamed to my Onkyo 805 and it say's 5.1. On my PS3 it said DTS-HD MA 5.1 not 6.1...

I was wondering about this lately as well. The menu only states 5.1 Dolby Surround. But it actually appears as a 6.1 DTS HD MA on the PS3 during playback. The back of the cover art/case also shows 5.1 DTS HD MA. At least with the bit rate we know its lossless so that is all that really matters in the end I guess.

Don't quote me on this (I won't have a receiver capable of decoding DTS-HD MA until probably after Christmas), but I'm pretty sure you have to change your PS3's BD/DVD Audio Output Format (under Settings > Video Settings) to Linear PCM...I'm assuming it's set to Bitstream at the moment.

Because your PS3 is doing the decoding. It can't bitstream a DTS-HD MA 5.1 track so nothing will show up on your receiver.

My copy froze up on me as well, both times I have watched it on my Sony S-300. I had to restart the player the first time and the second time in started up again after several minutes only to freeze again later. I don't have the latest firmware installed, just the one before it. Is this the problem, because I got it from amazon and I don't want to have to return it.
