Criterion California Split (1974) coming from The Criterion Collection

It looks like this awesome and underrated Altman's gem will be joining the Collection. Hopefully soon.

So far I've seen The Player, Short Cuts, and Nashville, all in their Criterion editions.

Bring it on.

Hope it's true. It's probably the best film ever made about gambling.

Been wanting to see/get this for years. Never bothered with the edited DVD Sony put out years ago (especially when it went OOP and started going for big bucks).

Excellent news! CS is one of my favorite Altman films from the '70's. I agree it's one of the best films about gambling.

The shots of Reno, Nevada are especially cool (even though I've never been there).

Splendid. More 70s Altman is always a welcome thing.

Criterion's 6th Altman blu ray. One of the best represented director's in CC.

They really need to upgrade their Secret Honor DVD. It's become very relevant these days.

The more Altman, the better. Criterion, I heart you!

Amazing to see what an impact the maker of that documentary had when she investigated Warner/Chappell Music's decades-old false claim to hold the copyright to "Happy Birthday", sued them, and won. Quite a victory for ordinary people.

I would bet that "Georgia On My Mind" is cheaper now than it was when they put the DVD out, which is also when Quantum Leap season 2 was released on DVD, both of which were right when "Ray" was being released in theaters.

Here's the full list of cuts on the DVD, for reference, which misidentifies Cheech and Chong's "Basketball Jones" as "Basketball Joe":

I also wonder if it will have the original sound mix (this was apparently the first film to have a multi-channel sound mix in 35mm).

It would be awesome if they could get Segal and Gould to sit down for an interview.

This is unbelievably great news! One of the Altman masterpieces and a restored version is a holy grail want.

Happened to watch this just last night on Amazon Instant Video, and happy to hear Criterion are handling it. Was wondering why there wasn't a Blu-ray release yet!

Hope they port it to the UK as well - very probably, being a Sony title.

If I remember correctly, Segal and Gould appeared with Altman on the commentary track for the DVD. I assume Criterion will port that over, as they did with Altman's track for McCabe and Mrs. Miller.

I need this so bad. California Split and Images are my two favorite Altman films, and of course these are the two I can't get on Blu.

Probably something about those music rights......Wonder if Criterion knew about that going in?
