we use cyber scholar and a kid from computers just took the test, with some help from us of course, and is getting the 46 xbr 6 for 1000 bucks. the 70 in xbr 7 and 52 xbr 8 were both options on the list however, so i dont think they would be available if they were price protected

I'll agree... Besides, I read about a month ago the XBR8's backlighting was less than stellar, basically problematic. Anybody seen them??? Anybody seen them in action?

I would say in the top 3 TVs on the market, far from problematic. Just way overpriced....

Yes, I saw one in action over a month ago at a Sony Store at South Coast Plaza (Orange County, CA).

I've owned many Sony TV's and currently own a Sony HDTV but this new XBR8 with LED lighting (no lamps) is eye/mind boggling.

I sat down and stayed awhile daydreaming how I could fix the HH budget to get one in the door without the Mrs. freaking out.

As I stated, it was all daydreaming on that thought.

The TV was amazing to see in action and worth my detoured effort.

haha go to the store and check out the XBR8 and the 11" OLED TV. That thing has such good pq and is sooooo thin its freakin nuts. The XBR8 is a sexy looking TV but its super expensive, id rather just buy a KURO or a LASERVUE from mitsubishi

I saw an XBR8 right beside an XBR6 both in 46 inch size at a Sony store last week. The 8 was really impressive!! I had decided on the 6 but now I guess I'll wait until either the price comes down or I win the lottery and get the 8.The 6 was at 2699 and the 8 was at 4999! I would like to see an 8 beside a Kuro.

Some Best Buy stores have the 55 inch Sony XBR8 on dispaly next to the 55 inch Samsung LED. The Sony clearly looked better over the Samsung.

Another professional review was just published on the Sony KDL-55XBR8. Just like the first review the second review also mentions the new Sony XBR8 is the best LCD screen on the market in 2008 in terms of picture quality with only the Pioneer Plasma having a overall better picture.

Ugh... don't get fooled by this "240Hz Motion Flow" stuff.

In my personal opinion it's horrible. It's only good for gaming and sports channels. 240Hz on a movie?! Ew, it takes away the whole cinematic look of a film. Film should remain at 24p, the way movies are shot. Motion Flow makes it look as if the movie is sped up or someone captured the movie on a 60fps consumer camera, like home video. Yeah, the quality remains but the frames are ruined.

Having a TV that is 120hHz or 240Hz isn't what makes it look like home video and sped up, it's the post video processing after 10:10 pulldown is done which makes it look strange.

I'm personally fine with 60hz... but having the ability to watch movies with the newer tvs at 24 frames is really nice.

I won't buy a sony LCD unitl they start using glossy screens on them. the matt finish on their screens makes the picture look too dull to me...kinda like when you get photos developed - the glossy ones always look better I'd go with the 950 Samsung if I were to get an LCD
