Hi Fellow Blu-rayers,
I was wondering if I could get anyone's opinion/advice on this. I've recently come across two HDTV's that I'm very fond of but I'm wondering if one has any qualities that overall outweigh the other or make it more future-proofed for a solid number of years. I'm thinking about between the Mitsubishi WD-57731 57" 1080p DLP™ HDTV and the Samsung HL-S5679W 56" LED Engine Widescreen DLP® HDTV. Ultimately in simplest terms, I just want to be able to have the best picture and sound quality and therefore the best deal. Last edited by J_UNTITLED; 07-16-2006 at 08:33 AM. |

The biggest difference between these two televisons is price. The Mitsubishi retails at about $2800 and the Samsung at $4000. The Samsung being an LED DLP has no bulb that needs replacing, yet the LED is only rated for 20,000 hours and supposedly not replacable at this time. The LED is supposed to provide more accurate and brighter lighting for the picture, as well as not dim over time as the bulbs do.
As far as PQ and what not, I've never seen the Sammy nor have I heard anything about it yet. However I have seen both the 57" and the 65" Mitsubishi sets and they look way better than the last years models yet still seem to leave a little bit to be desired in clarity and color. IMO, the Sony SXRD still displays a better picture than the Mitsu, so I would wait until the new Sony SXRD XBR launches for comparison purposes. |

Personally, anything projection is crap in my eyes - even DLP. When I look a new TV, I start looking at the picture from the sides, top and bottom to see if the picture washes out.
What good is state of the art if you MUST sit in front of it to enjoy it? Totally stupid. The only projection I would consider these days are ceiling mount with pull down screen. |

Projection is a lot cheaper though. I like the old plasma with a motorized drop down screen so at night you watch on the drop down during the day you watch on the plasma.

DLP can be cheaper then other flat panel technologies but without forsaking any quality. Potential negatives like bulb replacement and the "rainbow effect" are going to become history with upcoming new HDTV's as well. |
