Default Strange disc behavior

I've got a Pioneer Elite BDP-HD1 demo unit for an exhibition I'm doing. Now the disc hasn't arrived from Japan yet that we're showing, but since I have a bunch of personal BRs, but no player yet (the deck has to go back in a week or so) I figured I may as well make sure it's functional

Herein lies de rub.

This is the demo player, as in firmware from last October or so. No I can't upgrade it, those functions have all been disabled to keep people from reselling them.

Kingdom of Heaven, Black Hawk Down, and Hellboy all seem to work fine. Curse of the Golden FLower, Finding Neverland, and Kung-Fu Hustle all refuse to allow me to even move the cursor and don't respond to any remote functions (though the player's internal functions are still responding to them)

Anyone have any idea what's unique about those 3 titles? I'd say they were all done by the same authors/design team, but I'm trying to figure out what could cause that kind of behavior

Even more odd, on BD-50s it only is able to count the program length to the end of the first layer, and if you hit rewind it goes right back to the last chapter on layer 1

Big Fish gets recognized as BD-Video, and then just sits there with "loading" for eternity. Dunno if that means a defect or what

Any input or thoughts would be appriciated, I dunno when I'll have another chance to make sure the discs I've bought work (not getting personal player till fall), though Ill have a chance to check BF on a PS3 next week.

This would be number one on my list.

Yeah I know it's the fact its a demo player. However from reading the documentation that came with it, seems that only the firmware upgrades and the multi-channel audio out have been disabled, and the "Demo player, not for resale" graphic

I'm just kinda nailbiting right now waiting for this disc to get here. Luckily the Japanese tend to use very very simple menus on their discs.

I think the better way to put it is this: What things in menus caused early players to screw up?

I'm not finding any connection between the discs, other than the ones with the non-functional menus seem to have the same team doing them (art direction very similar). Why do early titles liek BHD and KOH work, Q1 titles don't, but Hellboy that just came out does?

I'm trying to understand from a technical level so if this disc DOES have problems, I can come up with a workaround ,as I'm sure once the vieo starts playing everything is dandy
