These actors are way too old to be playing (or voicing) high school students.

Done with real, decent animation this could be fun. As it is, I can't even make it through the trailer.

This looks like a ton of fun! I'm a fan of both experimental animation and disaster flicks, so this is a must-see for me!

Trailer didn't do much for me, but it looks like something I'll dig.

What stopped me from creating the thread, was the fact I really didn't like the animation style at all when in motion. I'm all for different kinds of animation and will watch the weirdest things. But this one is not working for me, I find the trailer very unappealing. Might give it a chance when it's on cable.

Pros:

Animation looks really cool.
Story seems pretty interesting.

Cons:

Music way too quirky.
Lena. Dunham.

Need better art. Pass, unless the film is shorter than the trailer I didn't make it halfway through.

I might check it sooner when your review shows up and is positive, JWFORD.

I didn't mind the animation style that much as it fits the tone, but a lot of the flashing light scenes are painful to the eye (they actually played a epilepsy warning before the film at NYFF, and while I don't have that, had to look away from the screen a couple of times for what few seconds cause it was causing eye strain). Don't know if they will change that for the general release at all, but I could see it being a film which is more enjoyable to watch on Blu than a big theater screen.

It's certainly an out there movie (at the Q+A they admitted their goal was to sorta mix a John Hughes high school movie with a disaster film like Titanic as they are actually big fans of the disaster genre, but it gets even stranger than that) which will not be everyone's cup of tea, but I think there is a rewarding movie in there for those who go with it. Also, was a little bit surprised to see it get a PG-13 unless that also was edited for general release, no doubt the animation style and absurd tone can be mitigating factors, but as the trailer indicates, there is a ton of blood and death in this (certainly more violent/gory images that I recall than in the R rated Batman: The Killing Joke and probably Justice League Dark as well).

No idea why all of JWFORD's posts have been edited/removed...

But anyway. Got tickets to an advance screening of this in 2 weeks. With the director in person, which could be pretty cool.

we have this right now at the art house cinema I work at and I watched it last night. I quite enjoyed it actually. The animation takes a bit of getting used to but once it gets going, there are a lot of funny moments and it certainly earns its PG-13 rating. I dug the homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey as well (you'll know it when you see it). All in all, thumbs up and good for at least one viewing. Especially since it's only 75 minutes with opening and closing credits.

I know JWFORD got suspended and came back mad about it, but it's super annoying that he took the time to go back and edit/delete every single post he ever made with a mad face, including OP's for threads he started like this one.

I think Wes Anderson fans (like myself) should give this one a go (especially with Jason Schwartzman among the voice cast). I was not sure at first if I was going to enjoy this movie at all because of the animation, but the consistent inconsistency of line art and color made the film a bit hypnotic (flashing color scenes notwithstanding). Plot-wise I didn't get hooked into it until the disaster referenced in the title occurs, which is quite early in the movie. That's when the animation format begins to justify itself.

4 stars (out of 5). By the end I was really charmed by it.

I just think about how much time and energy it would have had to take to go through and edit so many posts. Seems like a super petty thing to do. I'd rather just leave then spend the time to do something like that.
