Ghost in the Shell Mondo Steelbook

Hi guys.

I was wondering if that new Mondo Steelbook of the original Ghost in the Shell is good or not. I know the anniversary set had subtitle issues and missing sound effects and I was wondering if that was fixed in this release.

I already have a couple versions imported from Japan, but I'm definitely picking up the new one. I love that cover and would love it in my collection.

Your link is broken; here is a proper LINK to that release. Right now its price is set at ￥4,519 shipped, which translates to $39.xx at current exchange rates.

I already have the original 2007 BD/DVD release, so I'll probably sit that one out unless I could turn enough profit off of selling it on eBay to make the "upgrade" worthwhile.

Do we know anything about this new Japanese release? What are the chances it's using the (much better) HD master that has only been shown on TV?

The item listing on Bandai Visual's site indicates that it has the exact same technical details as the previous releases. As such, it's likely that the A/V encodes will be identical as well.

Are the subs really good on the previous Japanese releases? I found the UK Blu ray release so bad subs wise I actually watched my old DVD last time because the "dubtitles" were so bad. Thinking of importing this new release.

Yes, they used I think the original manga entertainment subtitles, its essentially the best you're going to get.

Thanks for the confirmation. I didn't mind the original Manga Entertainment subtitles, at least it was a translation and not those awful word for word transcriptions of the dub.

The previous Japanese sets have had the Eng dub/sub on every Blu-ray release and just trailers. This upcoming set is a new disc with the English dub/sub (which could possibly mean a new encode). The new set has some of the old special features from previous DVD's added on and is cheaper than anything previously put out in Japan. It comes out April 7th. https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B01N12EY85

CDJapan also indicates it "contains making-of and more bonus video footage included on Blu-ray for the first time".

Just pre-ordered through Amazon Japan! Can't wait, I've been holding off on owning this on blu. Glad I did. Good price, amazing cover, and better quality over the existing US versions.

Saw this on the shelf at Best Buy today. The art looks really nice with the metallic sheen! It's even more appealing than the original Killian Eng print I have.
