Default My yearly rant - STILL NOT ON Blu-Ray!

I'm so sick of waiting for these titles. I simply do not understand titles like this not being released on BD after how many years now? It's been 17 years since BD arrived and almost 10 years since it beat out HD DVDs.

These are not 2nd run titles (OK some might consider Black Hole borderline...). OK, I guess I feel a bit better now. Cripes.

- 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
- Darby O'Gill and the Little People
- The Black Hole
- 13th Warrior
- The Abyss
- The Village
- L̶a̶d̶y̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶W̶a̶t̶e̶r̶ DOH!
- Dragonslayer
- What About Bob?

Lady in the Water has been on BD since 2006, and you own it

I'd like to see Dragonslayer from Parmount and True Lies.
Also Samaria Jack would be fantastic!

Yeah the Ghost and the Darkness! What the heck!?
Dragonslayer.....how is this not on BD? Heck it was one of the clips on Sony's 1980's Beta Hi-Fi demonstration tape (for those who don;t know or were too young, this was a BIG deal).

And what's up with Northern Exposure? Not only no BDs but no streaming either.

Oo, can I join in, I'll keep it to ten:

The Sea Hawk '40
Scaramouche '52
Bend Of The River '52
Brigadoon '54
Land Of The Pharaohs '55
Helen Of Troy '56 - I love ancient world epics!
Catch 22 '70
Start The Revolution Without Me '70
The Life & Times Of Judge Roy Bean '72
The Last Of Sheila '73

With the way Warner Archive are knocking them out so far this year, I might well get one or two of them by the years end

...& I do have the Blu of Lady In The Water, I quite enjoy it, although the rest of the world seems to hate it.

I'll second those posters who want Dragonslayer, The Changeling, Panic Room ( a Fincher film and box-office hit, what is the holdup on this one?) and Start The Revolution Without Me (arguably Gene Wilder's funniest performance(s) and the beautiful location work would be well served in hi-def).

To which I'll add The Magnificent Ambersons, Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde ('32 and '41), Reckless (one of the better and moodier 80's teen dramas), and 2 of my favorite Mel Gibson films, The Year Of Living Dangerously and Mrs.Soffel.

I can't imagine what the hold up is with Panic Room. I think it's only a matter of time before the Magnificent Ambersons gets a blu-ray release.

The Hitcher 1986
Evolution 2001 << I know that one isn't sought after but I enjoy it enough for a BD purchase.
Something Wicked This Way Comes 1983
Young Sherlock Holmes
The Explorers
The Wraith
Maximum Overdrive
Brotherhood of the Wolf ( a U.S. release anyway for crying out loud )
The Black Cauldron

I'm guessing this has to do with the music rights issues. They only ever released it on DVD after (controversially) substituting some of the in-show music tracks.

I also think Ambersons will materialize in time, though I still remember the frustration of it debuting on DVD the same time as Citizen Kane was debuting in hi-def and Warner's not bothering to provide a blu release.

I've heard that Twilight Time was angling for the rights to Panic Room but I've always found that suspect; it doesn't seem old enough or esoteric enough of a title for them to acquire the rights. Better that, though, than Sony releasing it as a "Choice Collection". However it pans out, I'd like to see all the extras from the 3-disc special edition ported over for the blu. That this is the only Fincher film not on blu is supremely annoying.

I would assume Twilight Time would love to get their hands on Panic Room. 3000 copies would sell in a week easy if for no other reason than because of the fact it's the only Fincher film not on blu-ray.

Region A? I don't think so.

Something Wicked This Way Comes 1983
Young Sherlock Holmes

Yes, I actually watch YSH often, can't believe I forgot it. And Something Wicked is excellent (I could watch Jason Robards do his taxes).

Random...but is there any chance that The Munsters or The Addams Family will ever be released on Blu Ray? The B&W would most likely look exceptional.

17 years? The first commercial blu-rays weren't sold until June 20, 2006. So no, it hasn't been around for 17 years.

And it beat out HD-DVD in Jan 2008, when WB made the decision, so 9 years since then.
