Unforgiven (1992) (Remastered)

I thought I would share this...A newly remastered release is being released as an UHD/BD combo on May 23rd in the US.

I got a reply from Warner and they told me that a standalone remastered BD only release will be released later this year

Definitely one of the earlier WB BDs that needs the remaster, as I believe the original Blu-ray was sourced from a 2001-02 era HD master.

Will 100% pick this up.

Hope some of those other early days BDs will get similar treatment. No Country, TWBB etc. Assassination of Jesse James too deserves it although I'm not a massive fan.

There's nothing wrong with No Country For Old Men. Also, the transfer is great on The Assassination of Jesse James for a low bitrate VC-1 encode, but it does need lossless audio.

Jesse James badly needs a new disc, but I'm OK with TWBB and NCFOM. Eventually if they make their way to UHD, I'll definitely grab em, but not high-priority like Unforgiven is.

Thrilled to see that this will finally be available BUT, thanks to the pathetic 4K version of GoodFellas that WB gave us, this time I'll wait for a few reviews before purchasing.

Both would clearly yield improved results if released today. And importantly both are great films, two of the finest we've had in the 21st century thus far.

Like I said, I'm OK with that and NCFOM. But Assassination of Jesse James should have a better disc. It's probably not popular enough to get a UHD but this year's the 10th anniversary so maybe we can get a BD remaster.

There Will Be Blood and No Country For Old Men are reference discs already. Sure, they would benefit from new 4K scans, but I don't see it being more than a marginal upgrade.

My all-time favorite western. I'm very excited to check out the 4K disc, but I'm really pysched to hear this in lossless.

I don't think new "scans" would do anything. Both would have been sourced from digital interpositives. Better encode would bring some improvement, but there's no reason to believe the native source would need to be any different for films from 2007.
