I have a fairly new blu ray player and am located in the USA. I have purchased several bluray discs that play fine. I have gotten 2 different blu ray movies from Blockbuster online and neither of them will play. I get a "incompatible region code" message. Sony support says the player is updated and should have no problems. I haven't heard back from Blockbuster. I don't see a region code on the BB discs.
Anyone else have this problem?????? thanks! |

Since this only affects your BB titles, I would speculate there was a mixup in the BB supply chain. They must have sourced European releases somehow and sent to a US destination. Check http://www.blu-raystats.com/ for the region encoding of the suspect titles. If not "region free", then you will have a problem.
Return to BB online and request US disk. BTW... this is not a Blu-ray problem. DVD has the same issues. Last edited by Manco; 07-13-2007 at 07:31 PM. |

I am in Michigan and got the player from a local dealer. The player is a region 1 A series. It does play blu ray region 1 discs that I purchased new.

Here are the Blu-ray region encodings:
A/1 North America, Central America, South America, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. B/2 Europe, Greenland, French territories, Middle East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. C/3 India, Nepal, Mainland China, Pakistan, Russia, Central and South Asia. Looks like your all set as a USA/NA consumer. Again, talk to BB and ask to replace with proper disks. |

Had the same problem with "Lady in the Water" last night, which is the first BD movie I've received from Blockbuster Online.
It played fine... we got about 1/3 through the movie, and the screen went RED and the movie re-started. Weird, right? So I pop the disc out, make sure it's clean (it was), and re-inserted. That's when I got the dreaded Region Code error. Turned OFF the player (Sony S300) and back on, and the movie started up. But once again, I cannot get past 1/3 of the movie. I reported the problem to BB and asked them to send me another one. We'll see. |

Since posting my original message, I got 2 blu ray discs from Netflix which played fine. I still haven't heard back from my email to Blockbuster but at least I know for sure now that they sent the wrong ones.
Thanks to all of you for your help. |
