If there is a replacement program in the future and it is run like the X-Files replacements (send them proof of purchase and they send the new disc without needing a return on the old) I would go for it. Otherwise I don't think I'd bother.
If adding this to your collection is not a pressing concern, I would just wait to see if there is a reissue.
I've been emailing Umbrella back and forth this past week. They haven't announced anything yet, but judging by the way they're talking in their emails it sounds like they are going to have a replacement program, but they just don't have the nuts and bolts worked out quite yet.

That sounds great, here's hoping they do fix this. I was just away to order it a couple of weeks ago but held off after hearing about the subtitle issue.

Haven't heard anything, so I doubt there'll be a fix yet. Hopefully if/when they do sort it out, there'll be some sort of disc replacement program. I ended up ordering it a few days ago as I got it for a good price and I figured the subtitle issue wasn't a huge deal if it will be fixed down the line .

The two brief unsubbed scenes are:

- Harcourt talks to his aid after the gala
- Francisco talks to the alien physician in the morgue

I'll watch my copy soon. Haven't seen it in years so plot points etc I haven't a clue.
Someone suggested that the lack of subtitles in some spots meant someone would miss something somewhat important.
If someone's up to it, could someone post in spoiler tags the info from the missed subtitles, it'd be much appreciated

I am watching Alien Nation for the first time.

Can somebody please post what the unsubtitled Alien dialogue is?
I mean what they are saying in those scenes?

[Show spoiler]When Sam is in the morgue the coroner tells him that the dead visitor appears to be suffering from symptoms of "miners disease". Upon hearing this Sam tells him to keep looking into it, but also to keep quiet about it.

There's another part, but I haven't seen it in a while so I can't really remember.

Above scenes in the script:
[Show spoiler]
Quote:
During this, Jetson has turned the dead alien's hand over
-- sees something that brings a frown of curiosity to his
face. He leans closer, examining the palm carefully.
Then he peels back the alien's upper lip.

Jetson frowns anew, with concern this time. He looks
around, spots a Newcomer lab assistant nearby -- BENTNER.
Jetson motions him over. Jetson begins questioning him
using the alien language.
Sykes and Winter nearby, remain
oblivious.

WINTER
Oh, here's an extra headshot if you
need one.
(hands Sykes a
polariod of dead
alien's face)
We're just about to start cutting
in. You're welcome to stick around
if you want. It's really
fascinating stuff.

SYKES
Yeah, I'll bet.

Sykes looks over, now noticing Jetson and Bentner in
earnest conversation. He only catches snatches of the
alien language. Bentner appears very unsettled by what
Jetson is telling him. In response to Jetson's final
statement, Bentner nods -- as if agreeing to do something
Jetson has requested.
Sykes goes over to Jetson.

SYKES
What's this? What's going on?

JETSON
Nothing.

SYKES
(really suspicious
now)
Nothing?
The other scene has the dialogue written. That dialogue (bolded below) between Harcourt and his henchman is spoken in alien language.

Quote:
Harcourt is smiling as he says this last, but his eyes are
penetrating... telegraphing a subliminal warning.
Harcourt and entourage move off... leaving Sykes steaming.

CUT TO:

EXT. BILTMORE HOTEL - HARCOURT AND KIPLING - NIGHT

Walking behind the others. They speak in very low voices;
Harcourt continuing to nod and smile to other passing VIPs
during:

KIPLING
That cop, the human, he was the one
who killed Anderson and the driver.

HARCOURT
This is becoming a serious breach of
security.

KIPLING
He didn't recognize me.

HARCOURT
It is his new partner that I'm
worried about.

Still no news about the possible replacement program?

Did this ever get fixed/recalled/whatever?

I've emailed them a few times since my last post, every time I get the same answer: 'We'll email you when a corrected version becomes available.' So it sounds like they still intend to fix it, but it's not a huge priority ATM (which is super annoying ).

Bad news everybody! I contacted Umbrella again and not only have they not fixed the subtitle issue yet, but they have in fact regressed! Now going back to standing by the straight up false claim that the film never had subs for the alien dialog in the first place.

Ask them to look on 101 Films Facebook page. I asked them about the Alien subtitles and they are including them on the second pressing with a replacement program in place for the first pressing

Not likely unfortunately. I emailed Kenneth Johnson asking that same question and he didn't seem hopeful that there will be a blu-ray release of the TV series. Which is a huge shame really.

I pulled out my copy of the Fox DVD and sent them a screenshot in response. It's baffling to me that they'd try to lie about something so easily verifiable.

What an absolute load. My VHS had subs. My laserdisc had subs. My DVD had subs.

Hopefully there'll be a good version of this down the line. This one ain't it.

Found this on another site:

Alien Nation subtitles update:

This film was released without the alien subtitles on the disc, this has now been rectified and all future stock will be produced with the subs included, in retailers from Monday 27th March. The way to be sure that they are on the copy you buy is that they will be listed an an extra on the front along with "poster & reversible sleeve".

Sainsbury's exclusive Blu-Ray will show "English subtitles" option on the back cover, if it doesn't list subtitles then it will be the version without alien subs.
If you have purchased a copy of the film already or happen to buy one in the future without the subtitles included and you want a correct, replacement copy then please do the following:

Take a photo of the physical product alongside the receipt/email proof of purchase and email to us at the 101 Films info email address: info(at)101-films(dot)com. Write "Alien Nation replacement" in the subject field and include your postal address.
We will then be happy to send you a replacement copy free of charge.

This appears to apply only to the new UK release, not the Umbrella release.
