Default Black Christmas (1974)

How is this movie on BD?
Can't find reviews anywhere, nothing on the main webpage either.
Cheers.

I believe it is only available as a German import right now. Might have to check out some German websites to find reviews.

He's talking about the original, which is out now on Blu-ray. Most will be disappointed with the transfer, but I found it good considering the very weak original source.

most say it is the "worst looking" blu ray out there... It is the worst looking one I own. But it isn't interlaced like the old DVD... it has a lot of grain which doesn't bother me. For some odd reason I really like watching the blu ray though.

if you don't own the original DVD then the Blu is worth it since most online prices are the same for the blu as they are with the DVD.

Yeah I don't own the dvd so I thought it would be best to just buy the BD and get the best version available at the moment.

I definitly won't be picking up the 2006 version.. now thats gotta be one of the worst remakes I've ever seen.

Just posted the review. The disc is region-free (tested on B-only hardware).

I really want this on blu. I loved the remake.
It was just enough campyness, and it was fun.

oh ya, it's a horrible transfer, but like mentioned above, I didn't own this on SD-DVD and believe it or not, I'd never seen this flick before so I picked it up. It looks terrible but that's fine. Another thing i noticed is that the left hand side of the frame appears to be darker in some of the shadowy scenes. Anyone else notice this. It might be on the right as well but the left is where I continually noticed it. At fist I thought it was just a camera effect they were using at the first if the movie but the darkness continues throughout the film.

How can it be a horrible transfer when its totally accurate to the source?

oh god, here we go. Sorry, i guess then what i ment to say is it's horrible quality. if that's the way the director wanted it to look then I guess he likes stuff looking like shit. Did the director intend to have a darker shodow on the left hand side of the frame?

What I am saying is in regards to what an insider that worked on the Blu-ray transfer stated (High-Def Digest forums).

http://forums.highdefdigest.com/blu-...st-review.html

"Black Christmas on Blu Ray is pretty much what the movie looks like on 35mm, and probably always has. I doubt it has ever been different to this, apart from improved contrast levels on a better stored print."

I watched this the other night and I have to say, the transfer is quite bad. As mentioned above, there is a large amount of grain, but I didn't mind it too much. For such an old movie, I wasn't expecting a brilliant transfer but I'm happy with the bd. This is the best the movie will look so it does the job.

I'm bringing the Canadian Blu-ray edition back to Wal-Mart tomorrow. It's not subtitled, so it's not worth my time. I'm deaf and I need English subtitles to follow a movie. Afterward, I'll e-mail Anchor Bay Entertainment when I get a chance to let them know of the situation.

On the back, it has the SDH symbol. SDH stands for Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. I looked everywhere on the menu and in the pop-up menu, there weren't any options. I even tried the Subtitles function on my remote control. There aren't any subtitles on this particular title.

Just had to let the members here who may be deaf or hard of hearing know of the screw-up.
