Good idea, I often find I need to compare releases for quality and extras for Jackie Chan movies. I think they don't understand there is a demand for it in the UK or studios are not interested, we seem to be missing a lot of US releases for other genre as well. I know some of the releases for Jackie Chan movies outside of the more popular ones are like upscales due to the source being used, some overseas studios in Asia were not helping matters too, seems to be getting better lately though.
I would rather Arrow and Eureka or similar UK studios pick up the classic Jackie Chan movies, they will be treated better that way as we see with Drunken Master. |

The German releases aren't allowed to have English subs. Blame Fortune Star.
AFAIK, only two of them are proper HD anyways -- Heart of Dragon (JP version) and City Hunter. The rest are the usual upscales. Several of them have original Cantonese mono, including the above two titles -- although City Hunter's mono is taken from the Japanese laserdisc and features a JP pop song instead of Jackie's classic theme. Here's the song playing over the JP credits (by that I mean it has a couple of exclusive JP credits, almost the same as the HK credits). The German BD has the song playing over the original HK credits. I guess they forgot to re-edit the audio as they did with Heart of Dragon. --- I'd imagine the reason so few of Jackie's films are available on Blu in the UK is because most distributors aren't willing to accept upscales (even the crappy Medium Rare learnt their lesson after Operation Condor). Great idea for a thread. JC's Blu's are a mine field. I'm praying Drunken Master does crazy business for Eureka so we get more to follow asap. Providing we got proper restorations I'd double dip on all my region 1 Shout JC discs in a heart beat.

They should be able to get Snake in the Eagle`s Shadow with no problem since the rights for that are owned by the same folks that own Drunken Master. Otherwise, they would have to deal with Fortune Star for most of JC`s classics. And, that would be a hard road to travel down. Not only would they have to wait until 4k masters are done, but, also make sure that they are color timed correctly (if Ritrovata are doing the restore) and make sure the original mono audio tracks are used. FS are a little sneaky when it comes to stuff like that. Though, if Eureka! would be willing to go to all that trouble, then, yes, those releases would be a day 1 purchase for me. |

I thought the 3D was surprisingly good in this and not weak at all. Nice medium 3D presentation IMO and a solid enough conversion.

Seems that the Well Go Usa Blu-ray coming out in June 20 has much more bonus features. Though the original language audio track seems to be lossy Dolby Digital 5.1. Eng dub only DTS-HD MA 5.1. The HK release of the movie seems to have some bonus features although they are not listed on the back cover. I'm waiting for more info of the UK Kaleidoscope. Hard one to choose from.. don't understand why some companies can't publish good details about their products. |

Seems crazy in the US to go lossless on the dub and lossy on the original language track. However has seen that before on other titles, as they market these to martial arts and action film fans who particularly in the US would favour a dub rather than those who enjoy watching a film in the original language. Am nervous about Kaleidoscope as presume small company and don't have the pedigree of an Arrow or Eureka. What's their track record like on previous releases. Am nervous at only £9.99 it's going to be a very basic release. |
