Default Baraka (What all blu rays should be like)

Baraka on Blu Ray makes most other Blu Ray's seem like SD. The Video and Audio on this are incredible.. it might have the best video and audio of anything released to date.

If all HD movies were of this quality, they would be worth every penny of the high prices they are charging.

The apostrophe in the topic title is bugging me to no end.

But you make a good point.

Very few movies are produced in 70mm. Far fewer than that are filmed to the quality seen in Baraka.

Baraka is the current reference standard for live action movies on Blu-ray. Nothing else in live action shot on film (and absolutely NOTHING shot on freaking video) compares.

Not really, no. I have seen better for sure. Remove the sharpening halos, then we can talk.

Yes, but even many movies with superior large-format negatives (Patton) end up looking dumbed-down on blu-ray because of inferior film-to-digital transfer technology, being sourced from later-generation elements, and/or improper digital processing.

I agree with you on that. The DNR on Patton is terrible.

It has been well established that Patton was a rare and singular happening with respect to the DNR. In short, it was a screwup that somehow got out and you can bet that Fox won't let it happen again.

and yet they also screw up the Todd-AO attrocity 'Oklahoma!' on standard dvd - they better rectify this on blu, if not fists will fly.
