Default 80 GB ps3

Anyone that has keep up with the latest news knows that sony is going to launch an 80 GB ps3 for $600. I was surpurised that the current 60 GB will be discontinued. I really don't see any reason to go with an 80 GB ps3 since I already have the 60. Other then the hard drive size, is there anything else that you don't get on the 60, that you get on the 80?

The 80gb model has a bigger hard drive, and drops the hardware emulation for PS1/PS2 games in favor of software emulation. Bundles Motorstorm in the box.

This basically is just a cost cutting move, trying to make the sales of PS3s profitable, or at the least break even. I'd think it might be close to break even on the 80gb model, but what do I know.

If you've already got the 60gb model, keep it. If you want more hard drive space, the PS3 manual describes how to replace the hard drive with any other 2.5" laptop hard drive.

I read that sony went to software emulation for the 60 before europe launch. I bought mine back in January of this year so I don't have the software emulation, but it really doesn't matter. I don't plan to upgrade the hard drive any time soon.

Does anyone else feel like this is a real scumbag move? I already own a PS3 and I'm a full on Sony supporter, but they just keep dropping the ball.

So many people are upset with Sony already for various reasons, they're losing fans daily, yet they continue to slap their supporters in the face. Regardless of the production cost, the price drop opened up a whole new market of customers for Sony. Even though it wasn't much money, it was the principle and alot more people got on board. This was a bad, bad decision on Sony's part. They need to wake the hell up. Personally, I think that they will not only alot of potential customers, but end up in a worse position now that they've fooled people.

I had high hopes that the company was turning around, but now I just don't know...

Yeah, Sony really dropped the ball on this one. Who would of thought that they could have gone from hero to zero in under 48 hours?

I look at it like this, they dont make me any money either way, so whatever they do doesnt really matter to me. By the way, I love my PS3 - as long as they dont stop making games for it (good ones at that), or Blu ray discs then I could care less about the price of it.

I think its great they dropped the prices on the 60gb, I dunno about stopping production or the 80gb 'upgrade' + motorstorm package... I know they are trying to boost game sales since most ppl who are buying PS3s are not buying games lol. I own 4 games and 60 BDs, and Ive had mine since launch. But if thats what it takes to get rid of HD DVD permanently and help ends this format war, Im all for it. Most ppl (like me who just picked up a 2nd PS3 for bedroom and 3rd PS3 for my friend's mom as her BD player) have been waiting for the price to drop

80GB model - kinda dumb but I can see the reasoning behind it.
Price drop on the 60GB - Good job

The "move" hasn't even been made yet. So let's just wait and see what happens.

That's a number I've never seen before, I would like to see a source on it, if you would. That way I can be more informed next time I post.

Sony corporation came out at E3 and announced that it will not be discontinuing the 60gb PS3.The changes in the hardware will be changed in it though in order to have the price drop on both the 60gb and the 80gb.

I don't think this is a "scumbag" move at all.The price drop was going to happen just a matter of time with any console or tech for that matter.
The fact is eventually HD manufacturers are going to start charging more for the smaller HD as the bigger ones become the focus on their production lines.Maybe sony is just getting a better deal on the 80gb HD now. Besides I have heard allot of peopl say wow 600.00 and I don't even get a game. Well now you get a game(60.00) and an extra 20gb.

For a real scumbag move see the xbox 360's life cycle.
Scumbag point #1: A console with a 30% failure rate. Just imagine if car manufacturers had a 30% failure rate on engines or transmissions.

#2: charging people for repairs and a 90 day warranty.

#3: After the PS3 launches they extend there warranty to 1 year (same as the ps3 isn't that a weird coincidence). Nice but lame try at saving face or is it just follow sony's lead??

#4: After 1 year of saying how trivial HDMI is on a console they release the "elite" version for 479.00 with a 120gb HD and HDMI. I for one believe this is because the PS3 came out with a 60gb HD and HDMI on the console.
The elite doesn't even have a Hi-Def drive yet they still claiming that its a Hi-Def machine when in reality its a upscaling DVD player.

#5: And finally after the press crucifies them for the 30% failure rate they are extending the warranty to 3 years for one specific failure (3 red lights aka red ring of death) and refunding anyone who they charged for this repair.

#6: the first week of the "elite's" launch videos of DOA elites are online. I normally don't put much stock into that type of thing but the video showed the exact same failure I experienced with my "premium" 360 4-5 months after I got it. DVD drive failure. I actually posted a topic about this on xbox forum and its gotten over 1,000 hits. Check it out some people have had this happen 2 or 3 times. Actually look for Cardy69's post just sent in #4 and is waiting for #5 now that is just wrong. http://forums.xbox.com/11411069/ShowPost.aspx

I don't think they "fooled" anyone. If you buy a launch console you should be aware that there will be a price drop sooner or later. If you don't know that well you are dumb. Does that mean you aren't enjoying your console??? I for one would have payed even more at launch if I knew how awesome Blu-ray movies were. The console was worth the money then just as it is worth the money now.
I disagree with the comment about them losing fans daily I have people on xbox live asking me about the ps3 now and a couple of guys I play with regularly are going to get one now. I see that as a HUGE positive.

These are just my opinions.
