RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY (1962)
NEW 2017 1080p HD REMASTER
BD50
Color - 94 Minutes
ORIGINAL ASPECT RATIO - 2.35:1
DTS HD-Master Audio 2.0 MONO-English
English SDH

SPECIAL FEATURES:
Commentary by Peckinpah documentarians Nick Redman, Paul Seydor, Garner Simmons and David Weddle; Documentary: A Justified Life: Sam Peckinpah and the Hogue Country (SD)

Original Theatrical Trailer (HD)

In this brilliant, moving film directed by Sam Peckinpah (The Wild Bunch), cowboy icons Randolph Scott and Joel McCrea find roles to match their leathery Western personas, playing aging lawmen hired to guard a gold shipment. They don’t have much: a horse each, a couple of dollars. And they have everything: their independence. But the frontier is disappearing – and so is space wide open enough for independent men.
With luck, the two will find space enough for this ride and one last payday. They will also find adventure, including the dramatic rescue of a mistreated bride (Mariette Hartley), gun-blazing shoot-outs and a life-changing betrayal. Both an exciting Western and a heart-lifting homage to the genre, Ride the High Country is a journey into film greatness

Damn, Bloody Sam is just inundating the Blu-ray market at the moment.

...and that isn't a bad thing

Hopefully Warner Archive have opened up the western/Peckinpah floodgates! But given the different versions I can't help but think that Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid would be better off coming from Criterion.

There's actually three versions of that film and I'd like them all to be included.

I think you can say there's four, if you count the television version.

What do you mean by "television version"? I'm talking about the theatrical cut, the preview version (which is the same as the 1988 Turner version) and the 2005 DVD version.

There was a version released fortelevision which cut out some violent scenes but added new ones that weren't previously seen. I think those scenes may have been added to the restored versions later on, but I'm not sure.

DVD Talk touches on it briefly

Quote:
For television showings several "R"-rated sequences were replaced with new material we hadn't seen in the theater, like the brief appearance of Barry Sullivan as John Chisum.
Also IMDB

Quote:
There have been three different cuts of this film: (1) the 106-minute theatrical release; (2) in 1988, a 122-minute restored version, known as the Turner Preview Version; (3) in 2005, a 115-minute restored version, known as the Special Edition.

Television version had violence and nudity cut and new scenes added
