Default Need help to convert 5.1 setup to 7.1 setup

Hi,

I have klipsch synergy Quintent III speaksers and Klipsch Synergy sub-10 subwoofer 5.1 setup. Sound is awesome, I would like to upgrade to 7.1.

Vanns has SS.5 surround speakers for $99. Is it a good match to add in 7.1 setup with my above setup? or any other speakers suggestion?

Thanks in Advance.

I would get some new towers, maybe Klipsh F1's or F2's, for the fronts and use your current speakers for all the surrounds.

That's what I did and I love it. I was scared my receiver was going to be to much power from them, but they do the DAMN JOB! Which receiver do you have?

Also I ended up changing my center to the C3. Here is a link to my gallery to see

Yeah, just be aware if you get towers you may find they dwarf your center and you'll want to replace it with something that's timbre-matched. In my upgrade path, my fronts were killing the Polk RM6750 center, even with them turned down and the center turned up.

That is a good point and that is something I did do, but actually that center channel with the quintet III really held up agaist the F'2.

I changed because I wanted to know how it would sound and I found it at a good price

You can usually find quintets sold individually on ebay, if you just want to add 2 more for the rear channels.

I looked at ebay but quintet III pair speakers are more than $130+shipping. but this SS.5 surround is only $99 for pair. Not sure this surround is better than quintet..

You're asking if you need to replace all of your Quintet speakers with the B-2's? If so, no. You're better off upgrading to even better speakers.

I don't think that's what he is asking. His Quintet is currently a 5.1, so he bought a set of B2's to make it a 7.1 surround.

Sounds like he is asking where should he place the B2's in the set up.

1. Should he put the B2's for the left and right surrounds and move the current 2 quintet's to the rear.

or

2. Should he just place the B2's to the rear and not mess with his current placement of speakers.

or

3. Should he use the B2's as the front left and right and move the current left and right to the rear.

Number 3 is not a good choice. I don't think your center and the B2's are a good match.

The other 2, that's kind of hard to make. you will have to hook them up and tell us.

yeah i was thinkin bout #'s 1 and 2. i think that #1 is the solution but i dont have speaker wire, i was gonna get at monoprice but i dont know which one to get...isnt 12awg the best? but do i need those or should i go for 14s or the 16s??? ill let you know which setup is better, but i would think that since the b-2s have more watts i guess that they would be better utilized in the 5.1 setup... not an expert tho. also to driver kings response...i would buy better speakers if i had more money. im just a poor lil kid. but i got all my ht equipment in really awesome deals... i like to buy things when theyre deeply discounted.

Oh, I got it! I would put the B2's as your surrounds and move the Quintet surrounds to the back. As for wire, 16 or 14 gauge will do. 12 gauge isn't necessary, but if you have the money and means, by all means get it.

it only seems to be couple bucks more on monoprice so i think ill go with the 12's. will make me think the sound is better.
