Default HDMI Inputs - How many?

I want to inquire from all of you fine folks about how many HDMI inputs you use/need and how do you get more if needed?

Background

I purchased my Mits 57732 last November when I purchased my PS3, wanting to take advantage of the 1080P and Blu-ray. Both my DirectTv Tivo and my Sony 400 disc DVD player can output HDMI and of course so does the PS3.

That's 3 HDMI inputs I needed and the Mits only has two on board. Bummer.

So in my haste (never purchase in haste), to get this worked out, I ran to BB and purchased a new Sony receiver as it had two HDMI inputs and that would allow me to channel the DVD and the Tivo into the receiver and the PS3 directly into the TV. I did not understand at that time the limitations of the optical audio I am using from the PS3 to the receiver.

Today

I have been reading on the site and finding out the mistake I made in my choice of receivers. You see, the model I purchased only has HDMI pass-through and I cannot hook up my PS3 directly to the receiver to take advantage of the audio capabilities of the HDMI. It simply passes the signal on to the TV.

In knowing how anal I am about everything working properly and set up to take advantage of this technology, I have to trash this receiver purchase I made and make another one that supports the direct connection though HDMI and I might as well get one capable of 1.3 as well.

The Onyko receivers have been getting good reviews here but they still only have two HDMI inputs and I have three sources.

Is there another way to get HDMI inputs?

There are repeaters you can buy, but still kind of pricey for what they offer good ones with 1.3 are $200.00 plus.

I have an Onkyo 605 and love it, have had no problems or issues. My TV has two HDMI inputs and the receiver has two, so I basically have three inputs. I have two going to my receiver (PS3 and Xbox 360) and one to my TV (DirecTV HD).

The next TV I ever buy needs to have at least two.

Thanks for the reply.

I understand the three input concept but the source you are channeling directly to the TV, how are you connecting the audio to your receiver since you can't using the HDMI? Assuming you're using optical, what if anything are you losing not connecting the DirecTV to the receiver in audio quality?

He's probably using 6 channel analog, but I thought those new Onkyos had full bitstream support.

THe Onkyo 805 has 3 HDMI inputs, but it costs about $1000.

Believe it or not I am using the optical connection. Honestly, right now, there is no need for an HDMI connection for my DirecTV for audio, at most all your going to get is Dolby Digital. Plus I really don't watch TV much for the audio quality anyways. So for this my connection to the TV via HDMI and to the receiver via optical is sufficient enough for me.

You are so right!! I also don't watch TV programs for the audio quality. Only when I'm watching Blu-Ray / DVDs / Games that I want the best possible sound.

My Samsung has two HDMI ports. One is for the PS3, and the other is for my DirecTV HD DVR. I would be nice to have a 3rd one for an Apple TV, but I can run that via component when I get one.
