I thought this was with TT, but maybe something happened on MGM's side and TT couldn't cough up the coin for the StudioCanal master.

So, it's most likely the same transfer with the UK release..

That one didn't look good!

Do you have the UK release? I haven't seen it, but a user review gives the PQ 4.5 stars. Also, there's a 5.1 track that doesn't appear to be on the UK.

I've seen screenshots of it and it seems DNRed! It certainly doesn't look like a 4K scan should look.

The transfer seems to lack much grain but detail is fair in medium to close-up shots. Long shots look a bit smoothened over to me.

This was going on my next UK import order. Now I can get something else, instead. Fantastic movie. Absolutely fantastic!!!!! I first saw this in high school. And, I'm still shocked it took this long to get a domestic release.

Digital Bits has a cover shot of the Kino release, looks to be the same as the Euro release cover from last year. Very colorful and energetic IMO.

I may go for this when it hits $15 or less. I bought Barton Fink DOR, and while I enjoyed the subtelty in the movie, I felt like I could have spent less for a catalog title.

This one will likely make up for it.

Just a brilliant movie. Put this together with Becket, A Man for All Seasons and Anne of the Thousand Days for great case studies of the reigns of Henry II and Henry VIII.

Just read the review on HomeTheaterForum.... not good. Proof again that "4K" means nothing if the 4K scan is made from sub-par elements.

I've become disenchanted with Kino. They don't always produce good transfers and I've been disappointed more than a few times. I hope the review is wrong but I'm concerned this will be another disappointment.

Kino releases a lot of titles, and some of them simply have masters that are of lower quality. These films are often a choice between a lower quality master being released, or never seeing the light of day, because the rights holders of the elements simply have zero interest in investing the money needed to do so. Everyone has to draw their own lines of what they will or will not purchase, but for me when it comes to films that seemingly only get released every 15-20 years (Lion in Winter, They Shoot Horses), I'm willing to bite the bullet to have the title available to me, because how the hell do I know if I'll even be around in 2038 to see a better release?

Sounds like the same issues the U.K. disc has. Hoped better encoding would fix, but sounds like master level shortcomings. Alas.

Would’ve loved it if this also included a digital copy, but I’ll still grab it at some point down the line regardless.
