Default Opinions on new budget home theater system?

Im living in an apartment right now, and planning on buying a place (and therefore upgrading) in about a year or so, but for now I want something to go with my PS3 Blu Ray and my 52" TV.

Amazon is selling the Sony STRDG720 for an astounding $199. I figure that along with 2 of these bad boys to start off: http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-Mon...7906608&sr=8-1

Once I buy my new place (and can customize it to my liking) Ill add the rest of the pieces...but for now how does this sound?

Those are some nice speakers. I will say that I do not think that receiver will do a very good job powering those speakers quite the way you would like.
Personally I say see if you can find a good deal on a different receiver. I had the previous years receiver the 710, and it was OK, but there is a big difference with my 920. See if you can find an onkyo 605, there are some out there for around $250. It would be a much better reciever in the long run.

Just my thoughts though.

Great finds! That Sony based on the specs should be able to push the 70's ok but I would suggest giving them a little more power. In fact for your situation I would invest most of your money into the best receiver you can get right now.

Thanks for the replies. I should have probably mentioned that my viewing room isnt that large, and the seating is perhaps 7 feet away from the TV/speakers. I assumed that the Sony would be able to power it appropriately, but Ill look into some other options.

Thumbs up I'm very partial to Polks

Although I haven't listened to that particular model, I have had 2 complete sets of Polks and was very happy with them.

The towers that you're looking at are very similar to my mains. (Take a look at my Home Theater gallery in my profile).

I have the RTi8's and they have great full imaging and a complete natural range down to the lows. A sub is still necessary, but you can add that later. Polks are excellent for discriminating music listening and really shine in a surround-sound setup.

Just my $.02.

Yeah, my living room is small too and I sit 5'9" away from the TV and speakers and I am telling you that my 710 was just underpowered. I am using sony F5000 fronts which is practically identical to the Polk Monitor 50's and it had trouble pushing those speakers. Now my Sony 920, is a whole other story, pushes the speakers very well. Sound is cleaner and fuller. I got mine for $380. Also the Pioneer 1018 is a great receiver. I almost got that one.

I would just hate for someone to make the same mistake I did and then be upgrading in a year cause they want something better(like I just did).

Just my opinion though.
