Great to have it coming out but not a fan of that artwork!
![]() Saw the HDTV master a while ago, looks nice. Let's hope SS don't do any f**king around with it to 'improve' it..... Music vid as an extra is a must as well ![]() |

Don't see what is wrong with it considering it's the original movie poster artwork. You can't get much more respectful artwork than that. I think it looks nice especially if it comes in a black case as the concept art suggests.

I have the DVD but will wait for reviews before grabbing this Blu-ray. Something tells me Second Sight may have chosen to release the film untouched rather than pass on it. Frankly, I never expected Universal to remaster this film, let alone licence it out, because of the music rights nightmare, so this might be a situation where the studio goes "take it as is or leave it". Of course, I'd love to be proven wrong

Hmm... UK release. Any word if this will be region free? I don't get it, no love for us in the States?

Second Sight usually locks to B (though some batches of their earlier releases like Gregory's Girl are region free).
In the US, Electric Dreams was a pre-1986 MGM title that ended up being part of the Turner sale, so it should've been with Warner right? Apprently, the latter let their US rights expire due to laziness so they could be back with the producers or an Indie film holding company. Funny thing is, the current MGM (post 1986 including United Artists) owns international rights to this by the way of Orion (who bought the 1980s era UK Virgin Films/M.E.C.G library before going under), and since they licence out most of their catalog in territories they own it its no surprise a label would pick it up sooner or later. |

I always thought Electric Dreams would be a music rights nightmare but, judging by the previous UK DVD release and now this BD upgrade, no such issues exist - at least not in the UK. But the mere fact that the film is being released somewhere gives me hope of an eventual US edition. MisterLime didn't completely dismiss the possibility of Kino licensing the film, unless I misunderstood his comments, since Warner no longer controls the rights so this is something to keep an eye on. I'll have to grab this UK disc to tide me over.

US music rights are much more costly and difficult than the UK. Best example I can give is that in the UK, they were able to keep a Beatles performance in the Doctor Who serial "The Chase", while in the US, the performance was cut and the going rate to use a Beatles song is $250,000. But it could happen. Companies like Shout and Mill Creek have restored music to shows no one ever thought they would see with original music again, so maybe one day there will be a US release. |
