Default Oppo Player Stuck on Region B - Help!

My modified Oppo UDP-203 seems to be stuck on Region B - I've entered the procedure to switch back to Region A about a dozen times but it's not working. Anyone have any insight into why this has happened and, better still, how can I un-stuck it? Thanks

you need to let us know what kind of mod your using (internal/external, brand & model) so we can help you out.

It's best to contact them directly. Have you installed a new update from Oppo directly, or just 220?

No, I haven't installed anything. I shot 220 Electronics an email but don't actually expect an answer. They sell modified players - I don't think that's something that's exactly legal so they have no incentive to try to help. If anything, I now have a top quality Region B-only player

It's not illegal to sell modified players.

Are you sure the region A disc you're trying to play isn't just using resume to return to the lock screen? If the mod fails, the player should return to its default region, which I figure is A, in this case.

I've tried several Region A discs - always get the Invalid Region notice. So you guys haven't heard of this happening to anyone before?

It's not unheard of, the only recourse is to contact 220.

220 got back to me - I have to do a factory reset. I'm supposed to call their tech dept. later. Hopefully the fix doesn't involve sending the player back.

oh ye of little faith, see, sometimes you have to be patient. you only had to wait a couple days before they responded. best of luck with the resetting, make sure you thank them too. keep us posted.

^ This is why most instances we suggest do it yourself regional mods (externally connected) not being at the mercy of a grey market vendor who is your warranty provider now.

Factory resets aren't too difficult to do. Depending on the player it's either a combination of remote control and front unit button pushes, or remote control sequence. Some even have it in their menu (but they can be soft factory resets).

I think with the OPPO it's:

Quote:
Setup Menu / Device Setup / Reset Factory Defaults
But wait until you speak to 220. You'll probably lose your personal settings, so jot them down if you need to remember any internet or account information.

Removing the modification region hack and doing a factory reset of the OPPO Blu-ray player would return the OPPO to a region A and region 1 locked Blu-ray player. The modification circuit board might have went bad.

JohnAV nailed it. Since OPPO's 93 player going forward, there is an ebay outlet that provides external mods that plug into the back of the RS232 port and the USB input. You can take the mod on and off as easy as removing an HDMI cable.

In fact, the current mod will work in the 93, 103 and 203 players....I know because I've used the mod in all three players. Though they sell a separate mod for each player (at diff prices).

gradedexchange is the company name.

What's the region switching process for this external mod?

1. Remove disc and close drawer. Player should say No Disc.

2. On the remote, press DIMMER, DIMMER, DIMMER, MUTE, 2 - all within 20 seconds.

3. Turn off the player and wait for the red light to come on.

4. Turn player back on. It will now be in the region corresponding to the number you typed in 2. 1 = Region A, 2 = Region B, 3 = Region C

There is a different sequence for DVD, but the default is to Region 0, which should play all DVDs, so you probably won't need that.

I don't know whether all players are affected this way, but on my 93, the display was very dim after changes. I just had to hit DIMMER once more to put it back where I like it.
