I don't know about HDTV broadcasts, but the early seasons of ER that are in HD on iTunes would need a lot of cleaning up before putting on blu. The image looks superb (clearly shot on 35mm), but the amount of dirt on the iTunes versions is quite noticeable. I have the seasons 1-8, but I've only seen episodes from the first two of those.

At this moment, it's up to Warner Bros. to decide whether an ER Blu is worth it, but it can be done. The fact they're doing no release at all to celebrate its 20th anniversary is disappointing.

ER officially turns 20 and we get nothing of an announcement of any type of restoration. Coupled with the fact Warners is about to lay off 10% of its workforce I think hopes for a proper ER BD Release is now off the table.

At least not anytime soon. In any event, I've still got my DVD collection which I'm quite happy with, however, I maintain hope that somewhere down the line we will get a Blu release.

I have a good feeling that we will see this show in HD within the next two years.
Yeah, it'll be pricey but worth it I think. I look forward to its release, an announcement next year perhaps?

Agreed. I'm not sure why Warner didn't take advantage of its 20th anniversary last year, so they did absolutely nothing. It's a timeless show.

I still can't believe there isn't even a hint of a Blu-ray release for ER! I've been re-watching my DVD editions recently (something I do fairly regularly!) and I just keep thinking how amazing it would look in HD. Warner Bros, make it happen!!

I bought them over the years (since waaaaaay before Blu was even a thing) because I've watched the show from the beginning. But with as much as I love Blus these days, it's a crime to not have one of my all-time favorite shows available on that format!

Oh yes, the VFX must for SURE be the reason. I'm ready to buy (even pre-order!) the BDs the second they become available!!

Thumbs up

I'd like to own the original 8 seasons or so on blu-ray. Hope it happens soon. I used to watch the TNT reruns back around 2001 and over the next few years but I haven't watched them in a long time. I guess I'll catch it on iTunes in the meantime.

The entire series run is airing on the POP channel in the U.S., not sure if the episodes are in HD as I don't subscribe to that channel on my cable system.

Pop quietly last week began to run the popular medical drama “E.R.,” which Schwartz says is not available elsewhere on TV or on any subscription-video-on-demand service. Schwartz said Pop is seeing viewers eager to watch episodes of the series once again as well as those who have never watched any of it.

I used to love E.R. but finally had to stop watching long before it actually ended because it just got so bad and really overstayed its welcome. As such, I hadn't seen it for a long time until recently discovering reruns on the Pop channel. Man, I'd almost forgotten just how great those early seasons were. The original cast (barring Laura Innes, who still grates on my nerves as much today as she did back then) is so terrific together. Unfortunately, Pop only broadcasts in SD. But if it ever got released on Blu-ray, I would definitely pick up those early years.

Xfinity has an HD feed for Pop. And ER is on right now.

Of course, Xfinity bounces everything down to 720p, IIRC, so if you're expecting Blu quality you're probably going to be disappointed.

Ah, okay. I have Dish and there's only an SD feed. Apparently, it's the same for Direct TV as well. I wonder why there's no HD feed for those providers.
