Default Significant other disapproving of your blu ray collecting!

Just wanted to put this topic out there. I honestly can't remember if there has been a thread on this topic in recent years but just curious of other members experiences with wife/husband/significant other not approving or agreeing with your blu ray collecting/addiction.

I usually get the following from my wife regarding movie purchases:
"You don't even watch these movies! You have some that aren't even opened!"
"What a waste of money!"
"You don't need to own every movie ever made!"
When looking at CC bill: "What movie did you order from {insert website here} that cost {insert $ amount here}?!"

My other half's a fellow geek and has Blu-rays of her own, so I've never had this problem.

My wife just said she doesn't disapprove. She doesn't care, but she just said I don't need to own every movie ever... LOL

Lucky! Once in a blu moon the wife asks if we have a certain movie or says she wants a certain movie when it comes out (Wonder Woman) but that's rare.

My wife told me again yesterday to stop buying movies. I said well new movies had better stop being made. She said you don't have to buy them. I said that I buy a very small portion of what is released. The conversation stopped there when she realized she was getting nowhere.

My wife does get annoyed that I buy so many but she never questions why or tries to tell me 'you don't need that'. She's very supportive otherwise, because she knows how much I love film. The only thing she really can't stand is how remasters are always being released... but she doesn't blame me, she just said she hates how the studios do that.

I'm basically sittin' pretty.

My ex was like this and my Blu-ray collection was a major reason why we split four years ago (Yeah, that was a dumb reason!). She was overwhelmed by the quantity of movie to choose from (lol) and she never understood why I would buy a movie on Blu-ray that I already own on DVD and why I would spend some time designing new covers. After we broke up, I was free to collect without being judged! I don't say that it is the only way to fix that issue, but it is how it worked out for me.

My new girlfriend love my collection, she feels like we have a rental store in the basement! The best part is that she thinks it looks great to have three 6-foot tall bookcases of movies - so I really can't complain anymore!

What you need to do now is to explain to her that movies are a big part of your life. Does she likes books/games/clothes? Try to make her see why you *need* that many movies with something that she do herself. If she loves clothes, she probably buy more than she really needs, but who cares? She loves it, and she (hopefully) use her own budget for buying clothes. So you should be able to buy what you love with your own money. That's how I see it.

My wife actually likes that we are building a film library, and while she is personally not a film buff, she doesn't mind it so much. Especially since I don't buy anything and everything, but because I am selective about what does go into the collection. She also likes that I'm able to introduce her to films that she otherwise would have never heard of, some of which are her favorite movies to watch now.

My wife gives me crap about it on a consistent basis but she knows there's nothing she can do. Trying to convince her to buy me a new blu ray organizer for this coming father's day was a nightmare.

Some guys go out and drink, party, spend money like crazy. I just wanna be home and watch movies. Not the worst thing in the world. It's basically what I tell her. But she was with me through my VHS and DVD collecting back in the day so she knows the deal.

I've never been married.

I did have an imaginary wife for many years, though. Tragically, she starved to death a couple of years ago, because I was spending so much money on Blu-rays that I could not afford to support her or feed her anymore. That was such a sad day when it happened. Going to Amazon to buy more Blu-rays helped take my mind off of my grief.

In all seriousness...
The day that I'm in a serious relationship or in a marriage, my Blu-ray purchasing habits will likely be curtailed by myself to a considerable extent. A happy wife would equal a happy life, and I'd probably use more money to save up for vacations that we could enjoy together. Besides, God knows that I've got enough still-unwatched Blu-rays in my collection to keep me busy for a long while.

I cannot imagine any normal human agreeing with my Blu-ray purchasing habits. Tolerating, maybe, but not agreeing.

She did at first, but then I explained to her how much $$ I was saving by purchasing the movie instead of going to a theater. My presentation went so well that she ordered popcorn buckets for our movie room

Something else I wanted to add. People ask me all the time: "Why don't you just stream your movies?" I always tell those people: "What happens if my internet goes out or VUDU goes out of business or had other unforeseen issues?" I always get scratching heads with that response. I then say: "All I need to play a disc is power." I usually get a nod and a "You're right." at that point.

Most girlfriends I've had claim they are big movie buffs and love that I have such a huge collection but then as the relationship goes on they start complaining about how many movies I watch (makes sense right?) so that's one of the reasons they are my exes now.

I have friends though that have dated girls who really are film buffs when my friends aren't really that much and I'm just like where have you been all my life lol?

Xfinity Comcast internet is so spotty here. Mine is usually pretty fast, but it dips unexpectedly all of the time. I cannot wait for Google Fiber to show up in my neighborhood so that I can knock Comcast on their tail.

I actually do stream movies on occasion, if I'm trying to gauge a certain blind buy or something of the sort, but physical media is the ultimate way to go under my roof.

The problem is that for every female film nut there's about 50 male film nuts. It's the same way with sports. Imagine a movie-con. It would be 80% men.

My ex-wife hated when I bought Blu-rays and upgrades to the home theater. Despite the fact she had no problem blowing her disposable income on makeup and shoes.

My current girlfriend is accepting as she collects Disney Tsum Tsums, so I'm in good company now.

My wife left me because of my blu-ray spending.

She claimed in court that it was because of the booze and the cocaine and the hookers.

But that was a lie.

I'll never forget the look on her face when I told her I dropped $500 on the Scarface humidor edition.

...she never forgave me for that.

You bring up an interesting point in your last sentence. My dad has ragged on me for how many films I own and even went as far as to call me a freak of nature and that nobody owns as many movies as I do when he has a CD and Vinyl collection that blows my blu ray collection away. Never made much sense to me at all. It's a hobby and I really don't understand why it's considered abnormal.
