Default Sigourney Weaver on a Fifth "Alien"

From MTV Movies Blog...

Quote:
"There has been a neverending stream of speculation about the future of the “Alien” franchise probably since the very moment “Alien Resurrection” crashed and burned with most fans. Could James Cameron or Ridley Scott be weighing a return to the franchise or would we be cursed with more Predator crossovers? These are the questions that can try a man’s soul.

But wait, there is hope! When I chatted with Sigourney Weaver the other day, the actress definitely seemed to still have plans for her iconic alter-ego. “There’s definitely unchartered territory for Ripley,” she promised.

However Weaver wondered if the alien itself can and should factor into another film after the exposure its gotten in two “AVP” films. She asked aloud “whether there’s unchartered territory for a creature who’s become somewhat debased by this computer generated thing. I haven’t seen ["Alien Vs. Predator"] but I just think if you overexpose the creature, that’s a mistake.”

Weaver confirmed that she and Scott have discussed re-teaming for a fifth film, “Both of us feel a kind of commitment to that woman. He’s as much responsible for who she is as I am.” Then as she opined on the way the alien creature had been ruined in the recent films, Weaver’s comments got especially interesting.

“We’d have to go back to the drawing board on [the alien],” she said. “Ridley said that right away when we first talked about [a fifth film].”

And finally, the quote that’s gotten me mighty curious, “What we’re interested in is taking the character of Ripley and seeing what other science fiction story we can tell about someone who has lived several lives.”

I didn’t really process what Weaver was saying at the time I suppose but it sounds to me like we might be less looking at “Alien 5″ and more of “Chronicles of Ripley.” Are Scott and Weaver thinking about an altogether different type of sci-fi adventure for the character? Color me intrigued."

I personally think "Alien" remains to be the best film out of the franchise. After the disaster that was/is "Alien: Resurrection" I'm not so sure about a fifth entry especially seeing as technically Ripley is not even alive as it is a clone of her that is brought forth in the last.

Perhaps some series just deserve to stay in the past and at rest.

Aliens was the best IMO. Hicks and Hudson, and Bishop = badass.

If they even consider another Aliens movie they should talk to the people who did the Dark Horse comics, and the book series. They can mine a LOT better story out of them then they got for the two AVP movies.

Well, horrendous or not, that doesn't really ultimately matter to the studio honchos as long as it still makes a profit.

I think the best was "Alien". If you watch it now you see a classic, and it is one of my favorite movies. If you watch "Aliens" now... well it's a fun action flick, but unfortunately Cameron can't help but to apply his usual cheese factor: the too obvious little girl to emotionally beat you over the head, the corny 80s dialogue from the military grunts. It seems dated.

My second favorite, and I know I'm in a minority here, is actually Alien 3. I think its unrelenting bleakness of tone is admirable, and a work of art in its own way.

Alien Resurrection was hilarious. Unfortunately not intentionally.

I agree. The first "Alien" was the best. I think this series should have stopped after the 3rd one. Of course when this is released on Blu I'm sure they'll do a quadrilogy pack with all 4 and I'll get it even though the 4th one was horrible.

Jesus. Just leave it alone. Enough with the sequels. What's next? Alien meets the Wolfman?

It would appear that Ms. Weaver is perhaps following in the recent footsteps of Harrison & Sly....nevertheless, she remains my favorite older actress....I love her voice. BTW, I agree w/the others about Ridley Scott's original entry being the best of the series....hard to believe 'Alien' will be 30 years old next year!....it being held in high regard even today, is the mark of a true classic.

I think there is a lot of potential in the cross Alien vs Predator, it's science fiction, it's entertainment and if it's well done, it's great to watch.
