I seen it the other day and while I enjoyed it,I haven't pre-ordered it.
It's certainly a cool film and the way it was shot was interesting with graffiti and gun shots fitting into the music but I didn't love it. Some moments were very good and others were fine but overall definitely worth seeing and I can understand why some are raving about it. |

Gave off similar vibes to The Worlds End, good but ultimately not great.
Think I preferred Shaun of The Dead & Hot Fuzz. Driving scenes and soundtrack were excellent. |

Saw this last week and as someone who has ADORED everything Edgar Wright has made before I found frustratingly underwhelming. It's easily his most generic script with a painfully under-written female lead and a plot that hits all the usual beats for this kind of movie. Even stylistically there was nothing that really jumped out at me. I'm sure he's trying a more restrained approach given the film's semi-serious tone but as one of our most inventive visual stylists, I expected more, especially with such kinetic subject matter. There's a cute opening one-shot dance number that might have been impressive twelve months ago but in the wake of La La Land feels like nothing new. (Though I have no doubt that's just bad timing, and not Edgar trying to copy Chazelle by any means)
As it's being billed as a crazy and original car-chase flick none of the chase sequences were especially memorable either and over way too quick. In fact, the best chase sequence is probably the one that happens on foot! The music conceit is fun and leads to some really great moments (the opener to Bellbottoms especially) but they aren't as mindblowing as a lot of the reviews and reactions are making out. There's nothing in here that matches, say, the "Hold Tight" sequence in Tarantino's Death Proof. Or any car chases that come close to the finale of that movie for that matter. My twitter is set ablaze with people raving about the film to the absolute heavens and I sorta feel like I saw a different movie entirely. Because it's Wright, he deserves a hit and everyone is clearly rooting for him, but in the long run I don't think this will hold up like some of his past films. I'll definitely go see it again and no-doubt pick up the disc for the packed extras. It's a solid, fun movie but because it's Edgar Wright it came across as sub-par for me. Hopefully it will grow on me upon rewatches. |

Watched this last night and on the whole it's fun, but could do with some major trimming and the mid section - it almost ground to a halt! The various chases are cool enough though but have to agree that they're over too quickly! Would certainly recommend seeing it though, in a large cinema with Atmos. It will probably settle as my 3rd fave Edgar Wright after Shaun and Fuzz.

I would suggest, Spacey has already been paid, so whether you support the film at this point would be moot in that regard.

While I wasn't particularly enamoured by it, I'm fully behind great filmmakers given creative freedom to create original material so the more money this makes (and it has made a pretty big chunk of change so far!) the more likely we'll see more chances given on filmmakers in the future ![]() |
