Default Live Free or Die Hard

I've noticed that both versions of Live Free or Die Hard (the one in the Die Hard boxed set and the individual copy) are both the PG-13 version. Are there any plans by Fox to release the unrated version? As far as I'm concerned there is no such thing as a PG-13 Die Hard film.

It's better then 2 and 3 for me. Only part 1 is better to me.

I don't think the PG-13 rating hurt it all that much just less cussing.

You cant have a Die Hard movie without foul language. Its like taking the Tin Man out of Wizard of Oz.

Exactly, and it's like Steve Carrel said on The Office. In the first Die Hard, John was just this regular guy... In Live Free or Die Hard, he's driving cars into helicopters and fighting a plane...

My order of the Die Hard films:
Die Hard
Die Hard 3
Die Hard 4
Die Hard 2

I would not miss out on this Blu-ray for really minor differences (mostly overdubbing of some lines). I own several hundred Blu-rays and this is one of the best audio and video presentations I have ever seen.

Aside from the less swearing aspect of the PG-13 version, I noticed one small pointless edit.

In the unrated version where McClane is asking what Farrell would do if it was his firesale, he tells him they are going to West Virginia. As McClane is walking away Farrell responds something like "Yea, I don't think I can handle any more people trying to kill me... McClane, McClane, McClane! Oh sh--..."

In the PG-13 version it goes like:

Farrell: "Yea, I don't think I can handle any more people trying to kill me... McClane, McClane..."
*cut to McClane walking away for a split second saying in a low voice*
McClane: "Better get used to it"
*cut back to Farrell finishing his sentence*
Farrell: "McClane! Oh sh--..."

I thought that was just so pointless. It was like another way to try to get the people who are new to the Die Hard scene to see how much of a badass McClane was. And they kind of try way too hard to show that throughout the movie.

I still thoroughly enjoyed it and hope in the future they will release the unrated version on BD. I'll jump on that quadrilogy when that happens.

I think the "less swearing" actually makes it funnier, like when he goes "HACKER JERKOFF!!!!!"

Storywise it kind of makes sense, he's a lot older now, so he's trying to cut back on the swearing, I dunno....

It's sad that there is no F-word except one time, and you can't hear it because of a gunshot..... I mean, even PG-13 movies get to use the F-word, the unofficial limit is like 2 times or something.

Swearing wasn't the only thing that was toned down to get the PG-13 rating.
Listen to the commentary. A few things were toned down.

It's not really a matter of missing the foul language to me. It's the fact that the version in the Die Hard Collection is approximately 22 minutes shorter then the single disc version. What was that about? Needless to say I've decided to pick these up individually instead of the collection.

I planned on waiting for the unrated release also - kid-gloves Die Hard just isn't for me. Anyways, it was BF sale at Best Buy for $16.99 and I had a $10 coupon, so I pulled the trigger anyways.

I asked Jeff from the Digital Bits in the Insider Forum about an un-rated release and he said it was planned for the next DH tie-in/cross-marketing opportunity. Without another DH in the works and Bruce's next movie coming out Fall '09 being a sci-fi thriller, I figure it could be a while.

Here's the differences, in German. You can still tell which is which:

To me? Some digital blood and some more f-bombs do not a better movie make. When I watched the unrated it seemed to me like there were a lot of synching issues. I don't prefer it, myself... and I love the other DH's.

Dont know where you got that idea from. The version included in the collection is exactly the same disc as the stand alone Blu-ray release.

I own this movie and have watched it around 5 times?? And untill this thread didn't even realize it was only PG13. The rating had no affect wheather I like or disliked this movie.

For the record, I like it.

It felt as though they were forcing swear words in. It didn't sound as fluid or natural as the other three Die Hards.
