Default The Anthony Mann/James Stewart Westerns

These are becoming increasingly more well-regarded. I think they're just as essential as any Ford or Hawks westerns from the era.

I've assembled my own collection with TT's Man From Laramie and existing dvd releases. Winchester 73 was in that leaked announcement for Universals 4k restorations that included the Frankenstein films, bUT no news of a release. The Universals look... ok on dvd, but could and should look amazing.

The Naked Spur at WB is pretty terrible in its current dvd master.

What say ye?

I'm with you all the way: great, classic films. I've got 'em all, but they'd be gorgeous in bluray. Bring 'em on!

I am a big fan of James Stewart and hope we see more of him and Anthony Mann on Blu ray in the future.

I've only seen Winchester '73 but what a great film. I'd love to have it on Blu-ray.

You're in luck if you are willing to import. Bend Of The River is out this week in Germany. The Far Country is coming both there and in France shortly. The Man From Laramie has of course seen release from Twilight Time but the UK Masters Of Cinema bests it. Winchester '73 and The Naked Spur, despite being the big two of their collabs, are sadly MIA worldwide.

The Stewart/Mann westerns are slow coming to domestic Blu-ray. It's a sad failure of domestic appreciation for these film classics. It would appear our European colleagues have a greater appreciation of this genre than we do.

Here's hoping US releases of 4K remaster the original camera negatives. Until then --

Oh. And to add salt to the wound, here's Stewart's Night Passage on Blu-ray --
